So I was looking on Ebay for a race ecm and came across these USB cables that plug into your stock ECM and the other end into your laptop. Apparently it'll tune and reset TPS and read trouble codes. Has anybody bought such a thing yet and used it? How well does it work? Its a lot cheaper than buying a race ECM especially seeing how its next to impossible to find one for my '03. Thank you in advance.

I have been considering buying one off ebay also. From my understanding it is completely legit you just need to download the ecmspy program. The only reason I haven't done it yet is I'm a mac user and the program only works with pc's from what I've been told. There is thread on here somewhere with a link for the ecmspy program.

I am one of the 3 sellers on ebay that are offering the ECM/TPS cables. I went to ECMSpy.com and found out how to make them. I ordered several extras and put them all together in about 45 min. Tested them and then put them up on ebay.
If you want I can put a few more together for you guys on here.:D

Anyway I just bought one I'll update evreyone when I use it. Keep our fingers crossed.[smirk]

ok everybody not to burst any bubbles but im a motorcycle tech with a buell and im doing a dyno course right now, and so you all know that program will destroy your buell performance, you have what they call a learning ecm it takes in your riding habits and calculates air/fuel ratio and timing to you. so the ecmspy is a scam, i just bought the race ecm from the factory and i have the gp1 exhaust, bike runs and sounds great. i have a little loss on the bottom end but the top end is better then it ever has been. im going to put it up on the dyno and get some soild numbers i'll post my finding.

Don't mean to burst your bubble. I have the cable and have done a tps reset so far with it. Bike runs GREAT!!! My ecm may learn on its own, but apparently not as good as the 08's ecm. Otherwise I would have not had to make this cable and do the tps reset after doing a few mods that aloud more air.

Highsplowdrag,

How is ECMSPY a scam? I spent $30 to make the cable and the software was free. It paid for itself twice over the first time I did my own TPS reset. I can also do datalogging and dial in my timing and fuel map values specific to my exhaust and intake mods. I can also monitor and reset trouble codes. How is this a scam?

The ECM is not magic. It can't and does not miraculously adjust timing and fueling to match whatever mods or environment you throw at it. ECMSPY is a great tool to use in conjunction with a dyno run. If you put your Buell on a dyno and it's not tuned optimally, what tuning sofware do you use to tune it?

ECMSPY is not a push-botton solution, but is a tuning tool that takes some study and thought to use safely and effectively, and while it does have the capacity to wreak havoc on your motor if you do something retarded, just using it will not "destroy your Buell performance".

For bdugal, go ahead and buy a cable and give ECMSPY a try. Just start with simple stuff and search Buelletinboard.com and UKBeg.com for tons of reference info on what you can do with the software and for help on how to use it. Stay within your comfort level and progress as you learn more.

1. test
2. comment
post facts before you call something a scam and piss off people who do their best to help out the buell community.

a computer can only do what you learn him to do...it can thus not compensate for things it didn't know or didn't exist (like aftermarket parts) before it was programmed.
that is what ecmspy & buell's own direkt link is for.

Check the thread date, it is over a year old. Lot's of people making the cable though. If no luck here, you might try xopti's website.

Matt

The cable has no use without the software and when you go to the Ecmspy link, it has a big red "CLOSED" marker on it.

Lot's of people have the software saved, still available within the Buell community.

sorry for OT
but read this and felt of my couch...
now lay on the base floor, hard to write this words:D:D:D:D

My bike is an 04 but I bought it with less than 1400 miles so it was essentially new. I do know that it would surge in low and mid rpm's until I got ecmspy, studied, then did a tps reset and accurately adjusted the idle. Now this bike runs smooth and I didnt have to pay a dealer $60. [cool]
