Anyone have experience with Buell transmissions?

How much does it cost to replace one, where do you buy it, etc. I have a line of a XB9R that needs tranny to be re-built. Just trying to see how much money that would be to get it done and done right.

the case needs to be split so you will need a complete gasket set and you should probably do a hone on the cylinder and new piston rings seeing how its an 03. It doesnt hurt. Probably could use a valve cut/lap too.

I bought a used transmission for $200 from a member on here when mine went bad. Parts are pricey if you want new. Id look around for someone that has parts or is willing to part out. Its good to check crank bearings and everything before you split the case to see if you need those too. Are you looking to fix this yourself or pay to have it done?

Well, I would definitely be looking to buy used.

And probably have someone do the work for me...preferably not a dealership. I can do small projects, but I am no handy-man / mechanic type....

get some quotes from some indy harley shops around you. Iirc you are in wisconsin so there should be plenty of them around i would think. Tell them what you want done and see if they mind you using a used transmission for replacement parts. Many will understand you not wanting to drop the coin on a new one. I think you are looking at at least $1k in labor charges though.

You will save some money if you can bring just the engine in so they dont have to do all of that disassembly and reassembly work. They are probably more familiar with the engine /trans than the actual buell bike anyway.

just rebuilt mine last weekend, got parts from LSHD1.com and newcastlehd.com, I highly recommend 1211 Threebond to seal the case halves and invest in a flat retaining ring pliers to remove the retaining rings from the shafts, anything else and you'll have to buy new retaining rings, got the entire engine seal/gasket kit from LSHD1.com for $117, replaced the base cylinder gaskets with cometic gaskets, a pair for $23 from NHRS v-twin performance in Colorado P/N: 88-C9100, they are the same ones that come in the engine kit, minus the rubber coating

mark each of these wire positions from the stator connector before completely disassembling it, use blue painters tape, you have to do it in order the remove the stator from the case half...during reassembly you'll thank yourself for doing it
