I have a 2000 Lightning X1. The former owner installed a vance and hines exhaust and K&N air filter. I noticed the bike wants to backfire occassionally and changed the plugs. I also noticed that the bike still has the stock ecu. Would anyone advice changing the ecu to take care of the backfiring and somewhat rough running at low RPM's?

The bike also acts like a carb when in traffic. Acts like it's loading up. I know the FI on these bikes just reads the O2 sensor so thought a high performance ecu might do the trick. Let me know.

Thanks,

John

get an ECMSPY cable and ECMSpy and load a race map on the factory ECM. I have a copy of a 99 tune, may, maynot work on your 2000... i know i owe the tune to a few on here... just havnt had a free sec to get my old lap top fired up... i will though!

New 2K X1 owner here. My machine generally runs smoother than my carb'd S1, But, I think it runs lean at full throttle between 4-4.5KRPM, just does not have the grunt there that it should.

I can't get spy V1.12.27 SW to find the com port, have tried 4 different laptops. HELP needed here.

Got a 2nd ECU to mess with so that I could keep a known "pretty good" one (that came in the bike) as is. The bike would barely run when I installed the 2nd one. Reading the ECMSpy tuning guide, the ECU "learns" while running in closed loop mode at part throttle/around 3KRPM, so I hobbled out of the driveway. After about 15 min at 3KRPM+/-. the bike ran OK with the 2nd ECU, but not as good as with the original.

I think my TPS is off or not right, but can't confirm since I can't get the ECMSpy to connect.

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I do have the ECMSpy cable. I was wondering when Buell changed the fuel injection. My 2000 has the newer delphi type. What does the '99 have?

The ECMSpy cable that I have was with my 05 Lightning and fits my 2000 X1 so I'm assuming that may be when they changed.

My 99 x1 bucks at 3k rpm. which is about what i have to cruise at because of these stupid speed limit things. I have gotten tons of great advice on here but it all boils down to emc spy. I haven't got one yet, ordering soon. I know you already have one but this is deff the place to learn how to use it.

I FINALLY got my Spy Cable to work last night on my 2000X1 I think you have to put the kickstand up, had not been doing that.

Think my fuel pressure is low, or I have clogged injectors or something. AFV is pegged at 1.4 on the bike, and it is still running lean, I think. Going to check the fuel pressure next.
