I have a 2003 Buell xb9r of which I blew the rear spark plug ot of. I just plan on helicoiling it but I don't know the size of the tap and helicoil I need. Can anybody help

Don't use a helicoil use what they call a times sert, it's 10 times better and will last forever as a permanent fix any local auto store should have them for the plug holes! A helicoil will not last.

most likely 14mm.have you ever put a timesert in. theres a tool to install.also depending on how bad the plug hole is you may need to ream and tap the hole.always use a heavy grease on taps and reamers to catch metal debris.i also use a vaccum with stepped down hoses to suck any debris from hole.installing timesert is fairly easy but if done wrong it can have major consequences.

I just went ahead and payed somebody to put in a timesert into my rear cylinder......would help if it didn't come back out with the plug though lol... but on the other hand he put a new one in free and apologized a few times and I should get it back tomorrow

Make sure to put anti-seize on the plugs to keep them from pulling the timesert out and to keep the plugs from getting stuck. He should have put red lock tight on the timesert!

Is this a common problem or just user error like not applying proper or too much tourque or an engineering flaw like in the ford triton motors

He forgot the locktight but its all good now. It blowing out was partially my fault or mostly depending on how you look at it. I somehow managed to crossthread the plug about half way down and it just got worse from there. To be honest I kind of like the thought of a timesert. Don't get me wrong, I hate to have spent that much money, but now I don't have a steel(or whatever type of metal a spark plug is made of) spark plug running into an aluminum head. Instead, it is hard spark plug against hard timesert.
