Bump start an 1125?

you could do it, you just need to have someone else on the back seat when you pop the clutch or the back wheel will skid. Unless you're a fat ass, then you should have enough weight on the back tire to turn the engine.

I couldn't even do it while going down hill ~20mph tire just skidded (I'm only ~140) and with my dad on I couldn't push fast enough to crank it over.

I helped my brother bump start his sportster 1200 a couple years ago. I pushed him down a long hill a few times before we got it to go. Craziest workout ever let me tell you.

Keep in mind the bike weighs roughly 550 lbs, he weighed 250 lbs and still had to time a hop onto the seat while at the same time popping the clutch.

Those jap 4 bangers are so easy to bumpstart.

By the way I failed at bump starting a triumph 675. I just skidded down a hill and that was when I weighed 185lbs. Probably would have gotten it at my current weight of 210lbs :D

I bumped started my xb12r in second gear rolling down a big hill.

Would only bump start if i pressed the starter button as well. Remember that.

I bump started my 1125r a few times ..two buddies on an xb one on the back with his foot on my passenger peg and I held onto his mirror mount, 45mph started!
I did start it on my own once standed in Indianapolis with a slight down hill lost a few pounds thou and five passes up and down the hill.

1125RCya, if you are even in that predicament again, there are several of us here in Indy that would help you! :) That goes for any of you guys!

I didnt have any issues bump starting mine in first with a running start...battery died once, was fairly easy.I am a bit of a fat ass though... lol.

Bump start a -1125r is stupid and a waist of energy if the bike hasn't ran for a bit and is hot out. Just call the police have them give you A jump start. I just put the ground to my seat post had my had on the starter and soon As I touched positive was ready to turn over. I'll never push start that heffer under my own force!

My 1125 is a track bike so there are plenty of people around to push when I need it (and no police lol). My sprag clutch is going out on the starter and it hits a dead spot so it won't spin the engine (not a battery issue).

Mark my word... and not to jinx the rest of us 1125 owners but I think the sprag clutch is the next "weepy clutch cylinder-stator issue" FN HD/Buell problem we will all see on our bikes. I am already there and I know of at least 4 others.. :(

Well today battery took a dive for some reason and thought to my self ;) Lucky for me Im on this Big hill LOL Didn't help put in 3rd and would only pop once then skid. There was a nice guy that gave me a jump start to get my baby home.So I would say no not with a dead battery unless your getting pulled.

I am new here, but not to Buells. I loved them for 15 years, but they have their vicissitudes.

Due to some repetitive battery issues, my 1125 (2008) had to be roll started more times than I want to count. (30+) Fortunately I live in coastal Oregon and we have enough hills.

Starting conditions - I weigh 225 (240 with leathers, etc)

My formula:

*Roll down a serious hill in neutral until you attain 25 - 28 mph.
*Pull in the clutch and upshift to 5th gear (or even 6th if you weigh less).
*Let out clutch quickly but don't dump it.
*It'll start.

I had the back tire start coming around numerous times in 4th gear or lower- and it wouldn't start, just skid....

Hope this helps anybody with the misfortune to have that small battery give up, which is way too common. [mad]

Was thinking about removing my starter and charging system and using a roller starter (Track Bike only now). What a PITA. Used this roller for a weekend. Had to be in 5th or it would spit the roller up under the bike. Wet, forget about it lol. I have the bike torn down now to replace the sprag clutch assembly (and EBR stator upgrade).
