Calling all welders!

I have a Hobart Flux Core Welder http://www.hobartwelders.com/pdf/spec_sheets/Handler_125_EZ.pdf
I want to weld some aluminum is it as simple as getting flux core aluminum wire to feed through or is it quite a bit more technical than that.
I am a hobbyist type welder, by no means a professional.

use low voltage and varying mid-range speed; 60 amps @ 20 vdc will do the job, but can melt right thru alum.

use as short as cord as possible; hook up welder to wall without ext cord

50 amps is good enough to bond alum with a arc welder

keep a good angle and dont force big puddles of arc

wear mask too; real easy to get arc burn to ur eyeballs

Do they make flux alm?
I know the wire doesn't feed well n if u use gas it has to be pure argon
Not 45/25 like steel. I have considered a spool gun for my welder but my neighbor just got a alm mig it is a push pull Lincoln basically has 2 feeders one in the touch head

I've always used gas and feed, and TIG/HIGH FREQ for structural aluminum, I have tried those aluminum rods, stick welding aluminum, blew my mind, it did stick the 2 pices of pulley back together, billet cogged belt pulley, kinda like our rear pulleys, except billet, it's still holding up under low speed, not balanced, non-critical, conveyor belt stuff

Good information! I ALWAYS wear a mask I love my sight too much to F*uck around and try to be "cool" or cut corners.

Do they make flux alm?

I google'd it and found a spool for $25 bucks.

Yeah man! Screw paying someone when I can learn a new task for less than someone would charge!

Looks like I will grab the spool of aluminum wire and try a few welds on some scrap!

That looks like the beer can stuff like braze for alm.
When I get a chance to play with my neighbors if I like it I am gonna order a spool gun for my welder.
Never gotten good welds without gas I'll just get a small tank of argon

I've never seen flux alum either and I don't think it would get you the best weld. You can't short circuit alum it has to be spray transfer or pulsed if you want the weld to actually hold together. Also if they do really make flux alum you might want to look into a push pull gun, with just a regular gun you are bound to have alot of headaches when it gets all plugged up.
