So ive had my xb12s for a few years now and I absolutely love riding this thing! Ive done track days on it and can walk all my buddy's in the corners! Ive always done wheelies on it here and there, just popping it up in second, riding it out, and setting it down just before redline. Although it seems like no matter how hard i try i just cant seem to slip 3rd in there while keeping the front wheel in the air. I can do it all day on my buddies jap bikes and i do know that those transmissions are much tighter than an xb's. But im just curious as to whether or not anybody on here can grab 3rd and if they have any tips for me! probably a stupid post but i love wheelies lol thanks everybody! :D

Exactly....and there it is. They have the torque of a wound-up rubber band, so they need the gear ratios super close.
probably a stupid post but i love wheelies lol thanks everybody!
Oh well.....I've seen MUCH more stupid than this?! :)

Crazy idea but have you ever thought of getting the xb9 gears for your xb12 i here they are wheelie monsters after that mod, I'm not a huge fan of wheelies ( becuase i cant ever do them lol).

Yea, as mentioned above, the XBs in general have much wider-ratio gearboxes than an I-4 would typically have, & specifically, the XB12 has quite tall primary gearing.

It's also a factor that we have 5-speeds whereas your friends are all probably running 6. Our 3rd gear may equate to their 4th.

All these factors are causing you difficulty getting into the air in 3rd.

It's just a matter of balance, get closer to your balance point before shifting.

My 9R will come up on shifts 1-3 and I've clutched it up in 4th.

That's a good point too. I'm no stunt rider, but I have learned that if you know what you're doing, anything can be wheelied in any gear.

If you're keeping it up by staying on the throttle, then it only makes sense that it's going to fall when you let off to shift. You need to get it up where it's not taking much throttle to keep it up, then when you shift it'll be high enough that you can pick it back up.

if you know what you're doing, anything can be wheelied in any gear.

Not calling you out, I just dont believe this to be true. Ive clutched 3rd standing on the back pegs after a coupl3 bounces on my 12s, but 4th would never.

Tear that shit up.

I've never purposely tried to do a wheelie but every once in a while my xb9r will power wheelie in 1st from a stand still. I just don't see how people are doing wheelies in every gear unless they are tearing their bikes apart... JMO

Keep the Fu#kin thing on the ground!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!You cant fix it or your self if you crash!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dad

but the beast inside me wants to play. If you keep stupid caged inside to long he becomes a total hooligan when he does make it out. LOL :D

That's some funny $h!t dad chiming in! Although good advice that I probably don't always follow!:D

I personally love wheelies but my xb12 is a street machine that I would never ever get over if I wrecked it so I keep wheelies to dirt bikes and four wheelers but I have done a wheelie or two in first and second never in third.. and as I have gotten older it just seems a unnecessary risk.

Not calling you out, I just dont believe this to be true.
I don't care if someone doesn't believe me; it my ride. Just cause you can't wheelie yours, doesn't mean I can't wheelie mine.

I was lifting it this morning on my ride to work, 2 to 3 shift included, it's really not difficult to do at all.

Ive clutched 3rd standing on the back pegs after a coupl3 bounces on my 12s, but 4th would never.
If you can't lift your 12s, you have something wrong. I've watched a fellow 12s owner lift his on 3-4 shift, in the lane next to me.
