So i'm trying to figure out what this metal piece is...it's just hanging there and doesn't seem to be fastened to anything. Looks to be a part of the belt guard, but I'm not sure. It just seems like it could rub the sprocket/pulley right by it. Tried looing at the service manual and couldn't find anything on it. Can someone give a little hint! Thanks!

It's an inner belt guard. I removed mine. The rear bolt on your cover will hold it in place.
My rear bolt was broken off inside the swing arm pivot, so I just threw it away. No issues.

thanks for the help. im gonna double check the cover tomorrow for that rear bolt you mentioned

is that only on the 03's? I havent seen one before and its not in the manual for my bike. Im guessing its an 03 bec that belt looks tiny.

Do you really wanna have a size contest!? Let's all whip out our belts and compare sizes! :) Just kidding. It is a 03 and I can't find it in the 03 manual as well...maybe it wasn't a good design and they took it off the newer models??

The fun part is the nut for the bolt is not in the manual. It's some kind of press fit into the swingarm pivot. Mine came loose, had to take the guards off to get at it, just used the bolt to tap it back into place. I suggest not torquing that bolt to spec.

Alright I just realized I dont have that long bolt for the cover can someone tell me how long of a bolt I need. I'm guessing the threading would be the same as the other 2 short bolts that connect the cover as well?

I measured that bolt on mine its 1 7/16" long the washer is about and inch . Im sure you could one that is a little smaller. And the thread is the same as the other two.
