Carbon fiber accessories...

Wondering if any of you have installed any carbon fiber accessories on your bikes...looking for pics and opinions on the quality.

I just bought the dash piece to see the quality of it before i buy the rest.

Looking at getting:
-Tank filler
-lower chin/belly/valance (what ever its called)
-Rear tunnel cover
-Belt guard

I bought my tank cover and windscreen from eccracing.com. I personally like the stuff it is not perfect but looks great.

it can be done tastefully or it can be a bit gaudy. it can be done cheap, if can be done expensively. I love seeing bikes that have the CF with paint that lets large swaths of the CF show. I only have two pieces but i'm looking to get the airbox and front fender and chin fairing.

i love this and will probably end up using these same lines just with my colors.

I have a carbon fiber windscreen, chin fairing, flyscreen, and heel guards. If you do it right the bike will look really good.

since our bikes arn't really race bikes where lbs dont really make a difference you could paint it to look like cf??? Just a suggestion, Ive seen alot of cars that were painted to look like cf and noone could tell the difference. They used like a cabinet cover ( you know the foam looking stuff with squares in it, used to set glass wear on) to which they spray through it to get the lil squares etc... Just a thought, I might try it sometime soon? Good luck to you though.

i've seen the CF paint jobs too I think for a budget build that would work, but i didn't think it was going to fool anybody into thinking it was CF. i have the china CF and it looks fine, no one is going to be inspecting for imperfections in the weave while i'm riding and in a parking lot people are going to gawk at the overall bike not just the CF.

I have no idea as to what kinds of CF are out there but I do know there are different weaves. Therefore, for my untrained eye (I couldnt tell the difference) LOL
However the guys on the car shows always seem impressed on the results (while they are getting paid to do so also) <-

i;m going to stick with the cheaper china stuff off ebay. diesel-moto out of b-more MD sells expensive shit. there are others out there. i think by going the cheaper ebay route i'll save about 1500 bucks for all the pieces.

asb has alot, and their carbon fiber matches buell. yea it is pricy, but its worth it in the long run. What I did was buy them over time. Not all at once, but I am very happy with the results.

I have to admit with the eccracing stuff, I did re-clear the parts to get a better shine out of it. But other than that it was great, no re drilling or fit issues.

I have the "el-cheapo" not to be confused with inexpensive tank cover and under-tail. I like the tank cover and hate the under-tail (fitment sucks and rattles). I plan on getting the fiberglass tank fillers and painting them. I also have a "Buell" carbon wind screen which will likely be for sale as soon as I sort out a dual lamp set-up. I opted to paint the front fender and chin spoiler for now as I may remove them and dayum carbon be spendy! This bike originally had white plastic and I bought it with the carbon goodies.

I just bought a X1 a few weeks ago, and bought the tank fillers and undertail from MDI carbon on ebay.

The CF is decent. Not super thick, but fine for cosmetic pieces.
The tank fillers came out nice, you need to drill your own holes no big deal. My only gripe was the left filler did not cover the hole on the side of the frame completely.
The undertail was a bit more involved. Getting the tail light nuts back on and the seat latch connected is a major PITA. Only due to the tight area in there. Perhaps if I had the hands of a 5' tall woman it would have been easier. But with my hands it was the hardest part.
As someone stated above the lower portion just hangs there. There is no mounting point. Personally I would never leave it like that, it looks horrible, and the vibrations would probably crack the CF eventually. So I fabbed up 2 - 2"x1"x1/8" pieces of aluminum that I drilled two holes into each. I then drilled a hole in the frame rail, and another in the udertail. I used some 1/4-20 bolts and nylon lock nuts to hold it in place. The CF side needed about a 1/2" spacer to compensate the gap. Done, took about a 1/2 hour. I just need to replace the two allen machine bolts with some SS button heads like the outside(didnt have a long enough SS on me).

Not a huge issue, but you get what you pay for. I understand that buying these pieces means you have to drill your own holes and possibly shave/modify some of the parts.

Jornum... good idea with the under tail... the rattle is getting to me. This weekend I am going to start on a shorty tube subframe... debating cutting up my undertail to fit it.. we will see how it turns out. Nice tuber!

I have it all installed, so I would rather not pull it apart again. Getting those tail light washers and nuts one were a pain in the ass squeezing my hands up there. Toughest part of the job!

The brackets were just 2"x1"x1/8" aluminum with a 1/4" hole 1/2" spaced on each side. Nothing fancy.

2- 1/4-20 1" long button heads(subframe side)
2- 1/4-20 1 1/2" long button heads( undertail side)
8- 14-20 washers
4- 1/4-20 nylon lock nuts
two spacers to go in between the undertail and the bracket. You can use some washers epoxy'd together if you dont have any kind of tubing to use. I tack welded my spacers onto the brackets for ease of installation.
Also using Stainless hardware is preferable for rust prevention. Your going to have a lot of junk splashing up on that undertail.

The size of the bracket is just what I used. You can make it as long or wide as you like. 1" 1/8" thick bar was just what I had laying around.
