Ok so this is my first speeding ticket I ever recieved on my motorcycle. I havent gotten a ticket in over 3 years. I was doing well. He got me doing 68 mph in a 40 mph zone... he gave me a "break" and only wrote it for 54 in a 40 which is a 2 point ticket... I've never had points before, so my question is (for anyone who has been through this already) how bad will 2 points affect my motorcycle insurance and will my car insurance be affected as well?? (I hope not) just curious if anyone has some insight on the matter... Thanks

yea im only 23, I dont really mind if my bike insurance goes up a lil bit because I dont really pay much for it... its my car insurance that im worried about, its already too high (2,500 a year)

Could depend on if you have the Bike and Car on the same policy, or at the same company. Usually they wouldn't affect each other, for one infraction, but habitual violators would get hit on both.

oooh ok Thanks, yea fortunately both are under 2 different insurance agencies... lol that point never even came to mind (still nervous)

It should not make your car insurance go up. Mine did not, only the bike insurance, and mine was a 4 pointer.

I got stopped doing 93 in a 55 in California's revenue generation zone, also known as Mojave. That was 1 point. I thought all tickets were 1 pointers?

Come on guys, you haven't paid insurance until you've become a collecter of points, like myself.I am up to 9 points and pay $128 and some change a month. And kajer,I got my 2001 Kawasaki zx7r impounded and was taken in for getting cought on the radar gun at 137mph in a 45 zone(old farm road up in the hills here in Santa Rosa)now that was expensive.A Sexybuell, see if you can do traffic school, could give you a break of somekind in your insurance or your driving record.;)

I've heard talk of deferment, ask the judge about that. What I've heard is that you can get it cleared as long as you don't get another ticket in a certain amount of time, say a year or whatever. Then after that year is up, it's off and it never affected your insurance or your record.

i found out they dont even check your driving record when i appllied for my motorcycle insure i out no accidents or tickets in 3 years and they didnt even check so i got the rates for not having any ticket.

Usually the only way your insurance will find out is if you change policies. If you keep everything the same and keep up on your premiums, all goes un-noticed.[smirk]

I have paid more than my fair share in insurance premiums for my vehicles. I have accumulated 25-26 violations in my driving/riding over nearly 30 years. I have been stopped several times on the bike, and gotten away without any citations. My last 4 tickets have all been for excessive speed in Glendale, Az. and the last one of those costing me $792 in fines, and $1000 for Lawyer fees, and 3 1/2 days in Jail, after taking a plea agreement that allowed me to keep my license. If you are in Arizona, DON'T SPEED IN GLENDALE!! They are Serious. If you can take the class, that would be the best thing, if not, try for the deferment, though that is unlikely. The best advice is to stay under the Radar, don't draw more attention to yourself, I Know hard to do on a bike because that's what keeps us from being squished, but what I mean is wheelstands, weaving in and out of traffic, those things catch the eyes of the authorities, and they will stop you just to check your papers, and have a talk with you.
For the record I paid more than my car payments for insurance for several years, until I made it into my 30's.
Be Safe

I average 2 speeding tickets a year and countless scoldings.
Here in Texas we usually play the game by doin' Defensive Driving.
Well, if the infraction qualifies...
Then, we ASK for deferred adjudication.
Rare do they OFFER it to you. You have to ask.
Either way, there's a fine. But the point is to have it expunged.

Of course my official advice is JUST DON'T STOP!
That's the badass in me...
But sometimes they get you fair and square.

Ha! .... I'm Serious.

Ophawk,it's a good thing that we have never riden together,I don't think we would be able to afford it:D

Go to court and plead not guilty since he changed the speed then he does not have the print out from the radar and in order to prove you were speeding he has to have it to win, don't be scared to fight it that is the problem with most people so I mean no offense to you but if they don't have the print out then they don't win and he would not drop the speed if he really clocked you good luck and +1 just don't stop next time.

Usually when they give you a break, they WILL write the actual speed on the ticket as well as the method used.

Exmaple 54/40 Actual 68/Laser

Thanks to dave_xb12r's shining influence, I find my self splitting lanes more often, and I look at my speedo... Yea, I just split at 90 mph... LOL

I generally don't look behind anymore, I just go until I hear a siren otherwise...[cool]

lol wow, I feel better knowing im not the only one... as for Bordsnbikes,In the state of NJ you can defer your ticket twice (which I have already done)and you have to wait 5 years before you can do it again or else the 3rd ticket will be an automatic 4 points... lol so im not even gonna try to take it to court because I know they will bring that up, its only been 3 years without a ticket for me since my last deferment. [mad]

wow

Based on my experience on driving a car in California...

tickets are usually a point on your record, and last for 3 years or so.

You can take "traffic school" every 18 months to 'defer' your point. (I could get a ticket for speeding every 19 months, and never have any points on my license)

5 years?! wow

Wonder what state/country you are from. I am a cop, and I have never seen a radar that gives you a "print out". I have "won" speeding tickets before without a radar at all, just my visual estimation. I don't really think you have a good defense to fight the ticket. Your best bet is some type of traffic school or deferment. Good luck, and keep us posted.
