Hi everybody and , happy new year first.
I m installing 2 new rims (bought used and have them repainted) on my buell xb9sx 2009 but i need your advices: i pulled out the old bearings and now i have to put the new ones.
I bought the spacers but it looks that when i insert it on the wheel, it is coming out of the hole for 3-4 mm.
It looks that is too long.
Is it possible that i bought the wrong spacer?
The wheel is 2008.
Please tell me if it is normal or not: if the spacer is coming out from the hole a little bit, how it is possible to insert properly the bearings?
Many thanks
Best regards

Post pics if you can please, that'll help us figure out what's going on. I'm going to be changing the bearings/spacers in my wheels in a few days as well.

You can see that is going out: on the other side is aligned and in this side is out.
The wheel is 2008 and the spacer has been ordered at HD dealer.
Is it normal?

Is the bearing on the opposite side sitting flush with the wheel?

Just cut down the axle tube a little and it wouldn't hurt anything[smirk]

I can t believe that i have to cut a part.
I think it s strange that one piece is not fitting perfectly.
Do anybody knows if maybe the spacer are different from year to year?

I won't be able to give you an answer till next weekend...that's when I'll be changing mine...

I guess it could be that you got the wrong spacer...I would measure it and then call Al at american sport bike and see if he has the measurement for what the length should be. Does it stick out like that on both wheels or just the rear?

I have my wheels torn apart (actually at powder coater), that was why I could just look to see the spacing with the bearing in but a couple pics of the spacers I can do [up]

Rear Spacer 8"

Front Spacer 4 3/16"

Ok, i check and also my spacer is 8 inches.
Unfortunately i put in the trash the old spacer so i cannot make a comparison between the old one and the new one.
Anyway, the picture i posted shows that the spacer is going out too much: the photo was taken having the spacer, on the other side of the wheel, completely inside; if i center the sapcer it looks anyway like it s going out too much.
I don t want to insert the bearing before i m sure that everything is alright: i will post another picture so maybe somebody can give me a good advice.
Thanks to everybody

I have heard a lot about the bearing failing from people, and it worries me. I have my rear wheel off right now. I am able to turn the bearings by a finger with a little resistance. They are still smooth. Should they be replaced anyways?

If you remove the bearings, can you please tell me the lenght of the spacer and take a picture of the wheel?
Thanks
