So, I'm having a few issues with my 2009 XB12 SCG. I think they're all connected. My speedo will randomly go haywire, then my check engine light appears, and the rear fan will not turn on. Also, the odometer doesn't move when this happens. It's been stuck at 14k miles for a while now. After reading, I've come to the conclusion that some wires are "shorting out" behind the headlight. I took my headlight off, and did some digging, but couldn't find anything that stuck out, besides my cluth cable being pretty much shredded. Here's some pics from behind the headlight. Can anyone give me some insight on what I should be looking for?

Do you know what the check engine light code is/was? That would likely give a big clue. I can't think of any common issue that would only affect the speedo and fan simultaneously except chaffed wires, which is why I think more codes may be set.

When the rear fan will not turn on, how are you knowing that it should be on? Is it when the engine is hot, or are you issuing the Fan diagnostic test?

For sure, if the ECM doesn't get proper signals from the speed sensor, that will turn on the CEL. It sounds like you still have power to the instrument panel but just no speed input? I would certainly re-seat both ECM connectors (the VSS sensor goes there first), the VSS connector, and the instrument panel connector.

No I haven't checked the code. I'll definitely do that next time it appears. When everything is normal, you can hear the fan running when it's hot, but once the speedo goeas crazy, and the light comes on, the fan never turns on. At one point, in heavy traffic, my bike cut off because it got too hot because the fan never turned on.

The instrument panel is still getting power because the tachometer still works. Just the speedo and odo do not work. I'm not sure what you mean when you say " the VSS sensor goes first"?

The code(s) are still there, provided you haven't driven more than 50 times since the last occurrence, or haven't manually cleared them.

The VSS, vehicle speed sensor, connects directly to the ECM, and then from the ECM to the instrument panel.
