Probably a long shot, but does anyone have a Cherry Bomb Airbox Cover for sale? I see that St Paul is out of them and the one on TWIN MOTO is outrageous.

Just figured I'd see what was out there.

1. St Paul had the cityX style a few months ago when I checked, but I wanted one without the X so i found a crashed-but-good one on ebay (rear holes cracked) that I am going to reglass (it's hidden under the seat anyway).

2. i have one with both front holes cracked out and subpar scuffing/clarity (i used acetone to remove the previous owner's black paint-over job and it left some haze, which i sanded out, but badly, as it turned out -- coarse-grit sand scratches still exist, tho the haze is sanded thru -- once i polished it), plus hotglue residue where the previous owner installed metal discs so he could use a magnetic tankbag. I am going to experiment with glassing the front holes and then maybe painting black over the repair? and also resanding/polishing.

I say this only as a last-chance option; pretty sure you can find better on ebay with time and patience. But let me know if you want mine if these become absolute unobtainium. I figure anything i can do to try to save a piece of Buell history will be worth it now, or in 20 years, or w/e.

St Paul is absolutely out of these now and they have been discontinued. I found one from another gentleman, it has the X on top (which I'm not too fond of), but it could work if I can't find another. There is another XB12SS decently near me (about 3.5hrs away) that has a set of red translucents on it and he's asking a super cheap price for it. If he comes down just a hair more, I find myself not being able to say no to it.

wow, so SPHD is just flat out of parts? jeez, maybe i better order some blue stuff. Pretty sure my bike was originally blue (it's an 06 and i don't think cherry bomb was available then, plus it has blue gauge faces and a blue cheese grater on the rear mudguard) and i had toyed with the idea of having a set of blue plastics to swap on it if i wanted to.

I've seen mixed results trying to remove the X from forum posts, google etc.... it looks like it was glued on in a pretty aggressive way.... found a post where someone removed their X and then gave up and glued it right back on again because removing the glue looked like a big chore.

Crazy to buy a bike just for the plastics but then you'd have another bike, right? Not a bad thing. In the world of bicycles the right number of bikes to own is said to be n+1 where n represents how many you have now.

CORRECT BODY PARTS INFO AS FOLLOWS:
1-all airbox covers and flyscreens were manufactured by an outside vendor for buell. that vendor presently out of the cherry bomb red and orange krate(valencia) colored plastic used to produce same. some orange krate and cherry bomb part numbers presently listed as NLA but that does NOT mean they won't be produced in the future. it depends on dealership requests.
2-the "exclusivity ordering procedures" have been lifted from the entire dealership network meaning that any H-D dealership in North America can now order Buell parts. NO parts are obsolete....just some presently listed as NLA.
3-St. Paul H-D is NOT "flat out of parts". where did that rumor come from?

Sure, but we know that Buell isn't making any more airbox covers. SPHD is just saying that.

Theres a couple forum members who are legit body/paint guys. I would listen to them if they pipe up, but if you want my advise, this works for me::angel:

Do NOT use adhesive removers that soften the plastic! You're attempt to cheat will fog the plastic:upset: Good ol' elbow grease FTW.
A 'New' translucent cover with the City X on it will be MUCH easier to remove than one that's been outdoors for 10 years. Still some work, but totally do-able:applause:
