Clutch lever bush!

My clutch lever had been getting looser and looser so i decided to investigate and this is what i found, hmm, not good!

Made a few calls to HD and they wanted me to buy the whole clutch lever assembly and pay for 1 hours labour worked out about £150 plus however many weeks it would take to get parts, hmm, no thanks, luckily i work on lathes and mills daily so turned a few of these babys out in minutes!

For anyone who wants to do the same here's my measurements.(double check the figures im recalling them from the top of my head)

OD: 9.95mm (to be pressed into place)
ID: 8mm (7.9mm if you want a tight fit, I left room for grease)
L: 7.9mm

My clutch lever is super sloppy too I'd buy one or two if you have a couple extra turned out. Looks like you made a great fix.

Yea for sure I would be interested in both, clutch and brake. New levers I got dont have a bushing in them. so they wont last all that long.

If you want them guys im afraid you're gonna have to make them yourselves(the sizes are at the bottom of my first post), theres just too much waste material to make turning and selling them worth my time, plus i dont think my boss would be best pleased if he found out i was using the companies material!

hell yeah!! i have mad some parts on the lathes at my work. CNC multi axis lathes can do pretty much anything

@rudirulz can you write something about the press or puller that you used. Did you make that or... I think that is what is in the photos but not sure. About how much interference fit does the bush have?

Nice job ! on the Fix! The first time I pulled the clutch lever off due to sloppy play I was like dang that should last longer, than 7,000. or so? So the first bushing I made a couple OUT of 3/8 soft copper,just to have it fixed quickly. Cut some extras, GENTLY sanded down the outside & took a round file to the inside just enough that it would NEED tapped into the lever,The bolt was slightly tight. Greased it up .The 1st copper bushing lasted about 377miles. Gave me plenty of time to get some made out of soft brass and with a little TIME in my shop it worked really good. I still bought 2 more Clutch levers just for stock. They cost 18.34 each, figure in case to just slap it in there and go. Impervise Adapt, Overcome. Buellers do that well. [smirk]

@turbines in the photos is the clutch lever itself with the fixing bolt, i used a little 2 ton hydraulic press but could have easily hammered it in, i didnt make it too tight of a fit.

@jimijeans, nice work.

@Stevenc150, yeh i would hve used bronze but we didnt have any laying around, hopefully ill get a few thousand atleast from brass.
