Just curious what companys make replacement clutch plates for the Xb series bikes. Im pushing 13,000 miles and have a feeling it may be getting time for a cable and plates. Bike seems to have plenty of get up and go, just planning ahead.

I have had good luck with Barnett products. www.barnettclutches.com they also make clutch cables.

Thanks ........Looking at their site I see no listing for Buells after 02. would the Xb's fall under a diff motor catagory?

Evolution industries sorry I don't have their web site or Alto products should have buell clutch parts.

If you only have 13,000 you should only need a clutch adjustment, both at the primary and on the cable.

I have adjusted the clutch and cable. I have also inspected the primary chain and tension. The only reason I suspect any type of clutch issues is the lack of ability to raise the front wheel. Many other forum members mention the ability to raise the front wheel with little to no effort.........mine acts as if it has no desire to leave the roads surface. Im not into doing wheelies but it just made me wonder if I have a developing issue. Also when releasing the clutch it does not grab until the clutch lever is almost compleaty out......there is no friction zone inbetween.....Its either all or nothing it seems. The bike takes off like a rocket with no issues, and I understand suspension settings play a roll also. As far as the suspension setting go I have not messed with them since I purchased the bike because I felt there was no need.......the bike handles fine. I know cables on our bikes can go with no warning and I figured at 13000 miles why not.

Just a clutch adjustment is needed, and it's obvious since you said the clutch only engages at almost all the way out. You must have adjusted the clutch to the specs in the manual? Because they won't always be right, you can only adjust the clutch and cable by feel, cables stretch and the adjustment won't always be right.

About the wheelie, you're position on the bike is the biggest factor. If your clutch was shot, your rpm's would be shooting up anytime while accelerating.

Baja.......yes I did ajdust per the manual. It mad a small diff in the feel but not enough for me. the cable is adjusted to where there is very little slack. Ive been afraid to mess with the adj on the clutch itself too much in fear of possable damage to the primary cove from over adjstment.<--------- could have sworn I read on here that a member adjusted his too much and it caused a crack in his primary cover. Part of the wheelie issue may be my fat ass ( 6'2 & 250 lbs ). I have managed to get it up twice but it wasnt anything to write home about.

I have managed to get it up twice but it wasnt anything to write home about.

that sounds like a personal problem[confused]

i would adjust the clutch in the primary per the manual anyway. can you detect any clutch slip, ie rpm's increasing but speed does not in proportion

kona..... I figured I would get a smartass comment from that.........but I was too lazy to try and reword it.:D

I do not notice any slipping. When I give it throttle the bike speeds up acordingly.

Test Your clutch.....

Carefully,

in fourth gear @ roughly thirty mph pull in your clutch then throttle up to about 4700 rpm and dump the clutch while staying in the throttle. if it is still good the bike will lunge slightly and go back to chugging instantly. If the clutch is bad the rpms will come down slowly while the bike gains speed to match the rpms.

Mileage is not a factor because there.are too many other variables that effect clutch life. I bought my bike with 700 miles on it and a toasted clutch.

Btw energy one makes an excelent clutch kit for our bikes that includes a heavier spring if you like.. And they are very reasonably priced.

Very possible! Im 6'2" 180 lbs and i raise the tire flying through gears.

Cheapest mods for a bike to be faster, slim down [smirk]

Has any one used alto carbonite clutch replacement plates? I have serius hard shifting, any advice to fix the problem?

More then likely not your clutch. What oil are you running? I blew a shift fork and the cam with 26000 miles and when I pulled the clutch pack they were still good with plenty of material left and this was my first bike that I learned on and I ride it pretty hard. You may be having shift fork issues.
