It's your dream make it as big as you want. I'd take a dozen other bikes before a Sportster. I'd take a Honda CB 750 or a 60'sTriumph before one of those lumps.

Come on now, the current XR1200 had less hp than an 03 XB9R 984. Sportsters are like an 74 Mustang II. They'll get you around but don't expect much.

I can't say a bad thing about a sportster personally besides for a cruiser they feel like small bikes. The power is there but you can't hope for the front wheel to leave the ground anytime soon. A 95 sportster 1200 xl was my first bike and I enjoyed it.
