Hi guys,

i have an issue with my cooling fan.
it sounds like it is not receiving a steady flow of power, and i'm scared that my rear cylinder will be damaged over time due to overheating.

is there anything i can check or DIY myself or do i have to buy a replacement fan?

If you've checked fuses then I'd run jumpers from a seperate battery to the fan and see if it'll run or if it's truly bad. We can go from there but need to know if fan's bad.

Thanx for your reply,

i did swap the fuse for a new one (even though the old one was still fine)
How do i remove the fan?
i tried last night, but after removing the rear shock's top bolt i still couldnt reach the fan, because the subframe's undertray prevents me from pushing the shock back in order to access the fan's bolts.

i also cant reach the fan's wire connector socket thingy on the inside of the frame. the opening is to small and there is no play in the cables in order to pull it out...

any suggestions?

Service Manuals download at the top of this page. Download and Save to your computer. It should walk you through.

Hey I'm having the same problem!I just ordered a new fan from asb. My fan sized up after blowing 2 fuses so i figure it's busted. I am gonna remove the subframe(easy) and take the top bolt out of the shock then i should have plenty of room to fix it. I personally wouldnt ride with fan problems you could risk overheating and possible engine damage. I tried to freely spin the fan blades with a screwdriver and it will spin with force not freely like it is suppose to so I figure it is toast.

if you have an "open" connection and your fan is losing power, a fan may not fix it. if it is in indeed in the wiring. no trouble codes? no idiot light? i had to replace my fan at 10k miles, "shorted" condition.

I may have this issue, fan works sometimes but sometimes not, even when it's hot out and in stop and go traffic. I get a check engine light a lot these days but no code. I do the fan test with ECMSPY and no codes and it runs. Strange, my bike has 10K on it and I'm thinking I may be drawing too much current and fan needs to be replaced. If it's in the wiring loom that could be a pain. Thankfully I have a right side air scoop so it should help until sorted.
