I see all the dyi posts and want to know do I really need to put the extra t from the filter to a drain tube. I've had 5 other harleys and none of them had the extra drain tube.

I just have a tube running out the back on mine, no filter or drain, it just drains itself and don't get much out of it. I'll see a little on the swingarm but not much and never have anything on my garage floor.

Mine is open and drains as needed. When it was behind my pegs I never noticed any drainage or build up on the bike, but when I moved the open drain up by the front of the muffler I noticed a film all down the left side of my muffler when I pulled off my chin fairing.

i put a small 1/4 turn ball valve after and downstream of filter easy to drain after riding you'll get alot more out on cold days if left open oil/water mix collects on bike and becomes dust magnet

Ok cool i think for now I`ll just run a filter and see what i get out of that, Im also doing the airbox mod and white wire mod but wont be able to see if all this makes much difference for awhile cause its snowing and 27 degrees out.

I have mine set up with a drain cock at the end of the tubing, that way I can drain when needed, this is not my first bike with this type of setup, I had a 1984 Honda Nighthawk that had a drain tube for excess oils and such.:)
