Crank Rotation

Easy question: In relation to the bike, does the crank turn forward or backward? I just watched a video of a Harley race (Drag) motor and the crank turned backward. I have heard of this in MotoGP to help keep the front wheel on the ground or the other way around to keep the back tire on the ground for braking. I have not found any computer animations of the air cooled Buell motors.
