Im currently building a custom exhaust for my 12R and need some help/advice. What is the piece of the exhaust called that fits around the outer part of the header? Can you buy these fittings online somewhere? Can i just slit a normal tube and just clamp it like the original?

Called a down pipe/tube.

You can get one already fab'ed from Jardine to save some time and effort. Or buy someones used Jardine that may be beat up and use the down pipe.

If you want to fab your own, yes splitting a tube will work. Just mimic what is on the factory muffler, or even better cut that portion from the factory muffler and weld tubing on from there. It must be a close fit though to avoid exhaust leaks.

Thanks for the advice! I thought about cutting the original... but there goes any resale lol! How much does one of these downpipes usually cost?

NO idea, you'd have to give Jardine a call. I've only read/heard that they will sell you one seperately, so it's up to you to find out.

Also, if you want to keep your chin fairing, the Jardine chin fairing mounting brackets may be a worthy purchase as well (also KD Fab will sell you a chin fairing bracket too for around $70).

It just may be worth it to you to buy someones used Jardine. I know theres at least two for sale on this board right now, do a search. One guy HATES his so maybe he'll let it go cheap to rid himself of it (recent Jardine/drummer thread)? This way you get the down pipe and chin mounting brackets. Then it's up to you to make/attach a muffler.

I have a Jardine and have been on the fence about making my own muffler using the Jardine bits or just painting mine black and re-packing it and just going with it.

When I built mine I used a 2" coupler and slit it down the sides. I reused the original clamp. I have not had any leaks or issues with mine so far.

Thanks a lot for your replies Mike. I will definitely do some more digging around to find the parts I need.

Not sure if I want the chin fairing back on yet. Ill have to see after the fab process is done. Worst comes to worse I guess I could just rip the stocker apart and use the rest for scrap! :p

Looks awesome tuneport! I was thinking of going with the dual can look. Looks badass! Ill tinker around with some things and make my decision. Ill post pics with the finished product! Thanks guys!

Here is the link to the write up I did on my pipes. Tuneport's home built pipe write up
Let me know if you have any questions. I can even possibly whipe you a set for around $175-200 depending on costs if needed. I have since baught a tig welder and and am able to clean it up a lot over the mig.

Very nice D_adams. I like yours even better than mine. That is what I was after, but funds at the time would not allow. Definitely going with the stainless on the next build. [up]
