okey dokey ladies and gents i finally picked up the new firebolt, 04' with 4134 original miles, black and orange, it has for sure a carbon jardine, but i am not sure if it has the race ecm and the dealership didn't have a clue because apparently they were never told whether it did or didn't. so is there any way for sure to tell? and where is the ecm located? i know on the lightnings they're under the seat-ish, but actually don't even know where it is on the firebolts. so any help would be good.

and i will post pics as soon as i figure out how :)

Remove the front fairing; once it’s off, the ECM is right there, between and above the lights. Mine has "For Race Use Only" printed right on it.

do they always say "race use only". because ive been told you can upload data onto the stock ecm?

To be honest, I don’t know enough about inputting data to the ECM; reason I just spent the money for a race one.(I know just enough to do a TPS reset).

this is also speculation, but i was told if the fans kick on less then i have the race ecm. and i rode a bone stock lighning a few weeks ago and its defenitly safe to say on the my firebolt the fans kick on WAAAAAY LESS than the stock lightning

Once I put on the RSS, my fan almost never comes on.
Stock/Race ECM, for me, made no difference with fan time.

OK, if my 05 firebolt XB12R came with the polished two dump muffler is there a good chance that the ecm is the race ecm. I know the previous owner did not know the difference.
So far I have had no issues with it and I want to be sure and keep it that way. If it ain't broke don't be fixin on it

Ok, i think someone already said this, but i want to make sure i am understanding it correctly. Does everyone agree that if the ECM says "For Race Use Only" on it, that its the race ECM? Because I thought mine was stock, but i remember seeing that on there. I just assumed it was a safety warning or some disclaimer so people don't mess with it.

Some of the earliest race ECMs were Not stamped "For Race Use Only" - you have to run the numbers to know for sure. But with ECMSpy and it's availability - the only sure-fire way to tell what's on the inside of the ECM is to Fetch the EEPROM and compare to Stock & Race.

So i have officially removed the fairing and have looked at the ecm (lastnight) and it DOES NOT say "race use only" anywhere on it. However, my friends lightning with race ecm runs absolutly identical to mine.....so i guess i am just assuming that it may be either reproggramed or one of the older ones that doesn't say "race use only". I would like to think that if i had a jardine and no race ecm, wouldn't it run like *******?? becuase it sure ISN'T right now, it pulls extremely hard and there isn't anywhere in the rpm range where it becomes too lean and/or too rich.

My brother has a stock ecm and jardine. No problems, bike runs great besides losing a lot of Torque.
You should be fine without the race ECM.
