I just bought a 08 xb12r last night with 2,600 miles on it. I filled it up on the way home with the low fuel light to just over 3.0 gallons. I read that the full capacity of the bike is 3.8 gallons and when the reserve light comes on it has 3/4 gallon. Since I filled up just over 3 gallons I figured it was not overfilled.
I arrived home from the gas station and i went around the block a few more times. Every time I stopped a few drops of fuel came out the house that leads to the top of the gas tank which I suppose is a vent. Tonight I noticed even with the bike off and on the stand it leaked a few drops after a short ride. Its not filled to the top so could the vent be bad? Thanks, Brian

No,don't worry about it because I have done the same thing,I try to make sure not to fill the tank but only to the bottom of the opening where the gas cap is.

I put a little to much in almost everytime I fill up and does the same thing. It's alllllll goooood.

Thanks for the quick responses guys. Looking forward to putting some miles on this bike. Another quick question. The manual says to warm up bike for 5 minutes and check the dipstick on the stand. Last night i did that to have oil come flowing out of the cap. Fair to say overfilled? Its somewhat confusing on the oil in the swingarm because the motor and the oil cooler have oil as well. I wanted to get it sqared away before really doing any riding.
Thanks, Brian

YES, overfilled... bad thing too. The bike needs to sump up all the oil for the bottom of the motor to get an accurate reading. Penis wrinkle that owned it before prolly checked it cold and added more to it. Also when getting/doing an oil change make SURE you use oil that is Primary/engine/trans oil. The hooter the climate the heavier the weight should be. Here in the south I would recommend at least 20w or more. Up north you could get away with 15w or 10w.

check it cold on the sidestand oil should just barely show on the stick.for a lot of members with 08+ this is the most accurate
