Drive Belt Just Tore to PIECES???

So I took the bike out for a quick spin, and noticed that the bike would feel as if it was stalling/jerking,( suppose the belt was slipping?) the engine light came on and then when I got back I noticed that the belt felt fairly loose and had been shredded about 1/4 way off [sad]
I dont know if there is an adjustment for the belt that has came loose or what? Although its time for a new belt and I dont feel like forking out $175.oo there goes my HAWK Exhaust [mad] So anyone got a spare belt they want to sell or could give me advice as to why my belt just shredded?????? Thanks All.

The belt isnt adjustable.

How many miles are on the belt? Do you have belt guards and or drive on roads with stones?

What year is the bike? The older pre 06 belts had some issues.

the bike is a xb12r firebolt. only 1900 miles, just bought the bike 2 weeks ago and this is the first real drive I went on. I test drove it and rode it hard no issues, I also took it to the HD shop that did their 43 point inspection on the bike before I bought it and they said everything was good. can I get a belt out of HD's crapy inspection????? its a used belt from a part out bike. I have never used it before but it looks real good.

All I know is it came off a newer xb12 dont know if it was an S or an R but it's for a standard length Buell XB so a firebolt, lightning, lightning low (with upgraded drive) or lightning Scg. Not a uly Ss STT long or any 1125

I thought they changed things from 03 to 04+ then the newer more lifetimeish belt in 07 and up. I have an 03 9R and I was just saying if buelljek didn't want it then Id ask for dibs. I don't even know where to begin as far as price goes. My belt had 13,000 miles on it and it broke and I havent risen in about 2.5-3 months. It's killin me!

Buelljek. I'd say something had to be rubbin in order for it to slowly shred like that. Pull off the covers and see if you notice any wear. Pictures if you got em!

looking at this picture its almost like somebody put the belt from an 03 on your bike, the belt should go all the way to the edge on the pulley

that or it walked its way to the back and self destructed, if that's the case you have an alignment issue.

it was all the way out if I remember correctly? both sides look like crap, so I dont know? HD said it cost $210.oo to realign it and put a new belt on, is this this a good price? I would rather buy a ((good)) belt from a fellow bueller and save some dough.... thanks for the post delta.

wrong belt for sure, and is the belt gaurd bent and rubbing on the belt itself? if so just cut it back. I wouldnt let a dealer touch my bike for something like putting a new belt on.

it looks like the belt was torn off on the inside. If the belt is not run alot or sits in cold/hot dry air it will decay faster than moist air.

remove your front pully cover and check for a problem also check your tensioner.
