Drummer install question

I am ordering a drummer ss for my 09 firebolt and have a question about the install. I read in the directions that Kevin says to loosen the axle pinch bolt like 20 turns so that you can remove the idler pully. I was wondering if anyone has installed one of his exhaust and skipped that part. Or is there to much pressure on the belt to remove the pully. The reason I have to remove the pully is because I ordered the chin faring relocation brackets. I am nervous about playing with the belt and the tension! Thanks for any help!

I had to remove my pulley for my jardine, it was easy to get off, and back on.

In my experence there is little too much pressure on the belt to remove the pulley. just loosen the pinch bolt under the swingarm & loosen the axel about 15-20 turns. when you tighten the axel back up to it's proper torque spec it will be at the right tension. hope this helps.

You don't have to do any of that. I put mine on 4yrs ago so I don't remember everything but somebody had posted a thread about installing a drummer without all the extra work. I think if you have a long enough extension and a swival drive you can go through the belt tensioner / pulley to get to the said bolt. I would have to go look at my bike to remember.

Don't have the SS, but the regular drummer. Same instructions for a stock pipe removal to remove the pulley, but I was able to get to the exhaust straps without removing it, or messing with the axle.

i'm not sure how the brackets work, but maybe you have to remove the tensioner[confused]

Oh yeah. I see that the chin brackets use the pulley studs to mount. Looks like your out of luck. I don't think you'll be able to get it off without loosening the belt. Doesn't hurt to give it a try, but when I removed the wheel fto replace the tire, I tried short cuts with the pulley, and it didm't work out and I just had to take it off.

Don't remove the pulley. The bracket goes over the outside of it. All you do is remove the one nut and place the bracket over the stud on the outside of the pulley ...... Then replace and torque the nut down.
