Dual light mod-is the brightness per bulb reduced?

I've searched and read through some posts about the dual light mod on the Uly's, where you bridge the wires between the hi and low lights so that they are both on. Wouldn't this put twice the load on the alternator and thus cause them to be dimmer than if you just had one on at a time? Or is the alternator beefy enough to handle this extra load? I assume they are already hooked up in parallel since they have the switch to do either or, so the current draw per draw when both are on would be the same as if only one were on at a time.

a standard H7 state of the art bulb on average draws approx. 3 amps....in that range. does NOT draw down either the battery or unduly stress the alternator/VR. this is assuming those components are in good working order.
either swap wire ends in the headlight plug as per several threads on here.....warning....can be incredibly tempermental and tedious to do......OR...simply jump the yellow/orange wires. IMPORTANT: the jump MUST be done on the headlight bucket end of the harness plug. doing it on the harness end is catastrophic.

Thanks for that tip. Still not sure if I'll do it or not because in some threads people have reported that their bike has a hard time starting since the modification, maybe indicating that the alternator can't keep up? Or probably more likely; they did the mod wrong, maybe as you warned about. Do you personally have this modification on your bike? If so, how long have you had it? any problems?

in the past 17 years i have owned approx. 30 assorted XB models....presently own 4 last i counted.... did the mod to at least 25 of them. you might be the type that questions everything but trust me......the jumper mod i outlined works nicely....the wire swap i outlined also works nicely.....the bikes run perfectly......the bikes start perfectly.....the batteries stay fully charged.....nothing is adversely affected. that's the best info and stats i can provide.

I usually have some skepticism whenever reading anything on the internet because who knows if it's true, but your experience is convincing enough for me. I will look into this more seriously now. Thanks.

No I wasn't doubting HIM. Having that many instances of performing that mod successfully is very reassuring to me. I also recognize that he is very active here and seems to know a lot more about these bikes than I do.

Your absolutely correct in being careful as to who you take advice from, you'll learn who you want advice from as you hang out here, I just put that out there to give you confidence in trying that.
Also, most of the knowledgeable people on here when they give advice, they do it in order of ease and cost first, so try and keep that in mind.

Yeah I'm definitely going to try this out. I think the bikes just look silly with 1 of those bulbs lit up.

Also @Lunatic, I've read elsewhere on here that some have issues with the ground for those lights burning out after this mod. I assume you never had this issue either?

Just to be clear. I'm golden if I follow this tutorial? You mentioned if I do the jump to do it on the headlight wiring side not the harness side. Is this just if I'm splicing the wires or should I pay attention to this when popping the wires out of the plug and swapping them? As in should I do only alter the plug on the headlight side and not the plug that's connected to the harness?

There's a ground screw on the frame right behind the headlight assembly with 4 wires going into an eye connector. Make sure the connector & frame are clean & most people recommend putting a star washer between the connector & frame. Remember your tightening into aluminum so don't be too heavy handed... ;)

Got it done in 20 minutes. Followed that tutorial I posted couple messages up. Looks great! Rode it into work today with both headlights on and the heated grips on and it didn't seem to phase it (in terms of load on the alternator).

'Phase it' Ha!

Get it? That's an electrical joke Son!
