I just bought a '99 S3. It included the matching hard bags and has a Buell Race ECM.
I can't seem to get the seat open, the cable pulls about 3/8" and the key just spins in the lock on the back and that does not seem right.
If anyone has any links to service manuals, owner's manuals or any other useful info, it would be greatly appreciated.

Awesome! I bet that kickstand placement took some getting used to!
Thank you. Yeah, my foot reaches for the side stand, and it just isn't there, and the handlebars feel like ape hangers, compared to the Firebolt, but I wanted something with a more relaxed riding position for longer rides.

The latch is right above the rear tire the cable should hook to a little lever you should be able to release it from there. you may have to push down on the seat right above the latch to release some of the pressure. As for the lock for the seat can you see between the back of the seat and where the body meet you might be able to see if the locking plate is missing the nuts like to back off and fall off then the lock just spins. Hope this helps

BTW nice bike is it an S3 or S3T

Figures thats the same problem I had the lock plate is very simple it's a straight piece of metal with a little bit of a hook on it the hard part is the nut its very thin so that it clears everything. If I get some time i'll snap a pic you should be able to make something.

You know, I really don't know how to tell the difference. The decal on the tail says S3, but it does have the huge hard bags. When I put the bags on, I'm pretty sure I need a "WIDE LOAD" banner.

Was just thinking I can't remember 99 might be when they were just S3's and you could buy all the S3t stuff as options I think the tach an speedo are fliped too S3 tach was in the middle S3T was on the left I think. Buell did all kinds of odd little things between years back then. You must have the wide bags they are huge like a foot acrossed I got the slim ones.
