eBay = anger and frustration

Sorry, but this is a rant...[mad]

So, I've been in dire need of a rear wheel, but figured it would be beneficial to buy a set. I found a set on eBay a couple days ago and have been watching it. Nobody had bid on it in the 2 days of watching it and I nearly did the "Buy it now" option last night, but figured I would think it over until morning. Just my luck...someone bid on it. The other person and I did some back and forth bidding for a couple minutes, but I was left with the top bid. I don't exactly know how eBay works, but I figured that in an auction, when the timer says there are 3 days left, it means there are 3 days until the auction closes. After 2 hours, I receive a notice on my phone that I was "outbid," so naturally I go to place a higher bid...but easier said than done I guess? The auction was closed and the wheels were sold to a private buyer for only $5 more than my bid[confused]...is this why everyone hates eBay? If so, then I am right there with you...it doesn't make sense to me and needless to say I am pissed beyond description since the wheel is the only thing keeping me from riding my baby...has anyone else had problems like this?

Sounds like he may have used the "make an offer" feature. Do you recall this being near the bid option by it now box? Yeah I have lost auctions, but thats what gives me the thrill. Seems like you just want a wheel though

I don't remember that option at all. If I had seen it this morning, I definitely would have dropped them a price, but I guess that is part of the auction...

When Ebay was first getting big I liked it. I found some amazing deals on there that you would never hear of finding. i.e. 4 brand new bfgoodrich tires for $100 and a Mint fender strat for a $115. I did a lot of deals about 8-9 years ago, but now I dont even bother. So many scams you dont know who to trust. Only once did I have a problem where i didnt get the product. Paypal refunded me eventually.[up][cool]

Yeah, apparently there are some good deals out there...cough 2 new wheels for $300 cough...but I have no experience with eBay and so far I am hating the life out of it. [down] to eGay

my egay rant is F ing idiots running the bid up on shit 3 or 4 days before the auction ends. Like seriously, it's a good part and it's cheap for $150, so you and another dickhead are gonna bid it up to $400 dollars 4 days before it ends. Then I have to come in with 15 seconds left and pay $401 when I should have had it for $150. Like you think 4 days out no one is going to out bid your $400 dollar bid on a $1000 part

No probs here I have used ebay for 12 years, I never bid on stuff buy it now or nothing.

There are too many people that dont know what they are doing when bidding, they have a bidding war at the beginning of a auction when it has 5+ days left.

So you buy a $1000 part for $401, and are upset because you didn't get it for even more under market. I agree bidding early is bad strategy on ebay, but come on.

I think the argument is that bidding so early is stupid and a waste of people's time/money. What I was looking for was a part I actually NEED...not want but need. It's not like I'm trying to mod my bike out. I just want to fix it.
