New toBuell performance mods.I'm putting aK&N air filter on my 09xb12scg w/2000miles on the clock. With upgrades to the 09ecm,factory,do I still need to tune it to accommodate the filter? Thanks.

If you change the pipe then you will need to retune your bike. With just a filter the ecm can adjust enough to accommodate for the more airflow.

^ +1. If you do end up changing out the pipe, there's a good number of threads on here that can walk you through tuning the bike. BTW - need pics![cool]

Oh - and welcome! [up]

Thanks both.
These aren't the best shots, a little tight quarters in the shed!

I was told that if you did not do the open air box, that an 09 could handle a pipe and a k&n. Does anyone have a good tune for a 12 with a VooDoo and a K&N?

The 08+ cannot handle both pipe and filter safely. You could run all three of the the mods you described but the bike will run lean.

So far My 08 XB12R-Has DrummerSS/Stock Plugs/Stock Ecm and K&N with no Air box (Inside)mods. Got 15,527 on it I put right at 9,000miles on the first set of plugs.I did all the Mods above after the 1st., 1000mls service So far plugs are really nice. Except for a little Exhaust popping on Decell. I'm happy with it's performance. I reset TPS every 2nd fill up. So Far SO good. Might try NGks next time just to see if it'll really make a difference. I stock them in my shop but most of the time customers don't want to pay to install them . I use the Harley Direct link Race system/ also Tuner pro and so far so good, Use Ecm Spy for the older Buells .Try to get the ECM read &Tuner pro, From Xoptiinside & cable & drivers so you can see & figure out what to do when your ready. Good luck. [up]

Thanks,Jimi!
Got my new iridiums yesterday,r.h.air scoop ordered and on the way. Thinking about doing a breather mod,but I'll wait till I get it out ,see what the new additions do.

Yep, Guys the 08+ buells will function pretty good with out a tune. Right before Bike week When the shop slows down a little i might get the chance to play around (Yeah I know) fix everybodys bikes before my own. Pays those PESKY bills! the Tuner tools I have work pretty good. But VERY expensive! (But) I want to let you all know that Tuning is really the way to go.IF your just not famillar w/ Tuning you can put Put some up grades Like Exhaust,Breather Reroute, A High Flow air filter W/out air box delete on a bike and it will slowly adapt./it won't be perfect but The reroute on the breather is actually a good thing . That was the 1st thing I did to mine when I purchased Her. Now That being said I do have a Little off the Subject trick for the Regulators on XBs I Got the longer bolts and i used 3/4 in.long hollow aluminum OR round stock (Ace Hdwr.) to put some distance from the front Head so it won't FRY it because of the city driving. Black iron bolts are OK might want to check the wires if the bolts are long going thru towards Head. I put vacuum hose on mine W/ some silicone.IF you Have changed the AIR boxs inner box. Just use a paper filter OR for those that have done the other use Air cond.THE thin Foam thats washable Like for a window unit, works for My bike I make a new one every time it feels crusty or getting stiff.BUT during the winter only .IF its hot i remove it.Check the Forum for seeing the lessons for tuning At the price Octo/is charging looks like He's trying to help more than anything!FOR all us BUELLERS thats what a Forum is about.[up]:D
