just finish my xb 12r,put on a k&n,air box and breather mod and a d&d exhaust. should i buy a race ecm or a spy cable?(i dont know anything about computers or own a lap top) or bring it to my dealer to re program and dyno(it seems realy expencive). it runs great but could be faster.
 
First thing you should do is buy a ecmspy cable if you have a year model lower than an 2007. Next get race maps to load. Good luck getting a race map here. I've been trying for over a week with no luck so far.
 
When I first got into my buell I did the same thing you did, the ECMspy cable seemed a bit overwhelming, but it was cheaper than a race ECM, So I went with ECMspy cable.
At first, I was completely lost, but after actually reading steves tuning guide, and finding a couple of users ecm maps, I had a starting point, and worked from there.
For example, get the cable and download the Buell Race map rather than buy the ecm, plus you may enjoy it and feel a little more pride in learning that part of your bike.
I still have a lot to learn on logging and tuning but I found all the info from this and a couple of other message boards.
I promise you when you are with your buddies on their Jap bikes, and you pull out your laptop and tune your they will be impressed.
 
the maps are out there, im not sure if a person is allowed to post them on this site, are they not copyright to HD?

the only problem is i do not have access to a lap top...or know how to use it.[confused]
 
what is the difference of race ecm over re programing myself?
Also, you'd have to buy a Race ECM - "Re-programming" is free minus the cost of the cable and only takes a short time once you get familiarized.
 
i was looking at the cable links on flea bay,they are all undre $50. how do i know wich one is best and will work with my bike..they all claim to be the best with 100% feed back..but i know thats all fixed now.
 
Just get it from the Mike @ Xoptiinside.com. He's a ECMSpy guru so they're guaranteed to work. Plus his were $40 shipped at one time.
 
its 39.00 + shipping around 10. but i cant seem to find any contact or e mail ont his site,just a pay pal buy it know. looks like he was selling wireless reprogramers but gave up. i just want to know if i just plug it inn and press download or do i have to go into every system.i did my truck with a hand held,it was just yes or no.and will it really make that much of a difference,it runs great and is very fast now.
 
Have the escmspy cd, have the cable. Just thought I would load cd into computer, plug cable into bike, and off she goes, but no such luck! Help, anyone! Tried to read installation instructions and not sure if there's a driver needed (or what one is). I was able to get bike to respond with the link, but that's it. How does the program actually run?
 
The driver is available from Xoptiinside.com. It also has a link to instructions to install the driver, but I found them to be unnecessarily confusing.

But if you're getting response from the bike, you don't need the driver.

I was having a similar problem this weekend (also an ECMSpy newb) and the advice I got was to make sure your eeprom (stock ecm data) is backed up to disk before you do anything. From what I can tell a lot of the functionality in the program is restricted until you do this, to prevent you from irrevocably frying your bike's brain.
 
yes it is very confusing to me. i have it linked removed and re installed the stock program,but could not figure out how to get to race ecm program to the screen i need it on ,it is just a map graph and i can not move it anywhere. i tryed it all. i miss my screwdriver [confused]
 
Chevnut...if you could explain your problem a little better we may be able to help you. From what I can gather from your problem, you need to copy the fuel and timing maps from the race ecm and paste them into your stock ecm. Follow these steps:

1: Open up ecmspy and the stock eeprom.
2: Open up another ecmspy window and open the race eeprom
3: Highlight all of the rear cylinder fuel values for the race map. Press Ctrl + c on the keyboard. Then paste them (Ctrl + v)it into their the rear fuel map on your stock map. Repeat for the front fuel map. If all your seeing is the graph just uncheck the checkbox in the upper right corner that says "3D map view."
4: Copy the front and rear timing maps using the same method as the fuel maps.
5: Compare the two maps to make sure that everything copied over ok.
6: Close the ecmspy window that contains the race eeprom.
7: Click burn maps and follow the on screen directions.

Where can I find the tuning guide that is mentioned in a few of these posts? I did a search, but I'm new around here and not sure if I did it right.
