Has anyone had any luck installing ECMSPY on Windows8? I have had no luck. I purchases an ECM cable from Buell Tech on Ebay . I can get my pc to read the the cable as Prolific Serial to USB. But I cant get the FTDI drivers to install. I try to run the Executable file as Administator but Windows8, says "Your drivers are up to date".

Please any helpful info is greatly appreciated. I just want to do a TPS reset, so I can get riding again. I also have a laptop with XP and Im having the same issue with the FTDI Driver installation. Im sure this is a common problem so please post any links to previous forum post with solutions.

Instructions

Try opening the driver from the device manager, and rolling back the driver. If that doesn't work try one of these:

Uninstall the windows 8 driver and try this driver:

or this one if that doesn't work:

You can do the same with the XP machineLink

I don't have a Windows8 computer myself .... but wasn't there a feature that let you run a certain program that wouldn't run on Windows8 like it would run through say ... WindowsXP on a PC? ....

My problem is I cant get the FTDI drivers installed. I have tried on Windows8, Windows7, and XP. All the same resultes: "Your driver details are up to date" I can get the cable connected with the Prolific drivers, but after that nothing else. Is there a way to trick the computer into installing the FTDI drivers. I've gone through the FTID websites installation guide 400 times, with the same conclusion. I purchased all my pc new so I dont have a previous version of driver to roll back to, and the machine cant just delete the driver. I downloaded the FTDI executable file, Run as administrator, Complete installation, Recieve Message: "Your driver details are up to date." I opened device manager to view cable drivers and still have original version of USB to Serial Driver. [confused]

I have ECMSPy installed. I have the Prolific Serial drivers installed. When I open ECMspy it asks, "Are the FTDI drivers installed?" So I attempt to install FTDI Drivers following the instructions in the manual. Using device manager to "Update Driver" When I try to select the Extraced FTDI Driver from the browse driver tab, the computer will not allow me to click OK on the Extracted file folder. Its as if theres nothing in the folder, even though I just downloaded and extracted the data.
How does ECM spy install so easily for others but wont install for me? I have Lenovo Idea Centre K410 with Windows8. [confused][confused]

First, are you sure your cable is correct? Just because it say for Buells doesn't mean some eBay hack really knows that it's compatible. It sounds like to me that you have the wrong cable. Buells communicate on a specific protocol which is usb to serial TTL-232R-5V. Which is different from usb to serial RS232. You need something like this GearMo 5V TTL ECMSPY runs 100% compatible with Windows 8/8.1 most of the time it's an incompatible or bad cable. I bought a cable from an eBay hack job and it was DOA. So I bought the one above and resoldered the plug and works great ever since. Just make sure you have the right cable or it's even working. You can find some cable info at Xoptiinside unfortunately Mike will not give any tech support to anyone who has purchased through eBay as they have ripped off his work and sold it for their own profit.
