Hello,

I couldn't find a similar threat so here's a question: How do you guys go about splitting the engine case? Are there different methods to it? Is there a superior method?

I'd be interested to hear how different people go about it!

Thank you!!

hmm, I have a rubber mallet but I'm wondering which way to hit not to damage the gears if it hit it from the side. Should i hit it verticaly or horizontally?

if this seems like a dumb question I apologise but the HD garage quoted me £80 ($120) just to split the engine and I refuse to pay so much for sth I can do myself (once I figure out how to do it)

thaaaanks

no reply from him, so if any other person that done it could give me some more in depth hints I would be grateful.

There is a case splitter on ebay, but it is only for metric M6 and M8 thread. Does anyone know if the case screws are of this measurment?

Thank you very much

tap the outside of the cases gentle all the way around it and you just have to work it off. i have done it several times. its a bitch no doubt, a lot of tapping and wiggling and fighting it but check several times over to make sure all the fasteners and such that are there are off. sometimes it just comes and others i have had to shake, pry, scream, cuss and flip out to get it ha. if you do pry just be careful not to gouge it up.

Done it! Thanks to everyone for your help :)))))

now...erm...how do I remove the gears?

also, when removing the front pulley I melted off the rubber seal on the pulley shaft. Does it affect anything?

Again, I tried finding transmission topic and cannot..I'm either really crap at looking or no one has done a transmission removal/assembly post.

thanks again
