engine mods that with reliability

i was wondering if anyone knew if there are any engine mods to do other than pipe and intake that wont hurt the reliability of th motor? maybe cams or something like that?

I personally would stay with the stock cam unless you have experience in valve train upgrades, like stiffer springs and valve to piston clearance. But maybe you could look into roller rockers or porting.
