XB12 Engine oil level question

So for quite a while now when refilling the engine oil I was going with the process of filling to just where the oil would barely touch the bottom of the dipstick during a cold check. After a ride of about 30 minutes I check the oil as soon as i get off the bike and the oil level is pretty far past the overfilled mark right at the letter "D" in overfilled. I guess my question is even though during a cold check the oil is barely touching the dipstick am I still overfilling the engine oil? By doing a hot check it definitely seems so. Thanks fellas.

2.5 quarts.... If its on the dipstick you are good. When cold the oil may be draining from the swing arm back into the crankcase sump creating a lower reading. Check oil right after the engine was on for best accuracy.

ive been into bikes for 20 plus years but just got my first buell a week ago. this forum is going to be sick of my questions in about two weeks.

you're at least reading the manual and trying

This is the most important part regardless of what forum. Anyone could have the information dumped in your lap every time. But by actually doing the research aka rtfm, you will develop great troubleshooting skills along the way and will gain a great deal of confidence. But anyways.
