Thanks, but I really need to get a SLR camera - point and shoot for the losers! I even forgot to turn off the incandescent white balance option - so I had to edit the crud out of them. But overall they turned out well.

a guy on badweb is selling his d90
but also its not the camera its the user
I have seen pictures taken with point and click cameras and even cell phones that make me want to drop kick my D90
I worked hard on this one lightning wise, I used the flash so I could focus on a bright location meter in another less bright location and slightly overexpose it using a remote flash and a long exposure time.
darkening in post gives it a bit of that HDR look along with having a much larger stop range than the camera can capture by itself and long exposing it catching the darker bits.

A lot of compact point and shoots have great features no one uses, like exposure compensation, slow sync flash, selective metering etc. I leave my D80 at home most of the time because it's too bulky. I take my D40 a lot more because of the size but mostly take my Canon SD1200. Even something simple like using fill flash can make a huge difference. I've had people laugh at me when I use the flash in broad daylight, until they see their pictures have shadows under a persons eyes or noses and mine don't. Then they ask me to forward my copies to them

Yeah - I've been trying to learn, but with so many other things go on lately, just haven't been able to put much time into it.

I only touched these up slightly with a small brightness and contrast adjustment (+/- 5 points). Other than that, they are straight out of the camera. Not too shabby me thinks.

now if only they were as fast as DSLR's or had the low light performance....
but for the average user they are more than enough camera.
my problem is I could never get good shots of my son with a PHD (push here dummy
)camera, took too long to power on took to long to focus took too long to capture and took to long to write.but if you are not in a hurry a PHD really CAN do wonders.

Two compacts that I really have my eye on is the Canon S90 and S95. They have full manual control and a 2.0 aperture lens. A full size cmos sensor means it will take as good a picture as any dslr. Oh and it gets as wide as 28mm too. They are spendy (over $350) but so small you can still put it in your front pocket.
I don't do much nature/fall stuff.
I'm really into abandoned buildings, cars, and stuff like that.
But here are a couple I shot the other day.

ps I need to get my sizing and res. right for posting on this site.. these look kinda fuzzy.
oh well.
check out the Pentax K-x series. Pretty much deemed one of the best bang for your buck dslr cameras.. My first was a k-x and I still use it from time to time.
