Ben ,Welcome to the Forum, Never use the Older Version of ECMSPY for the Older buells/ ON A[NEWER] BUELL 2008 or newer. NOW, the 08+XBs some have the 2010XB fans ReFlash Fan Program due to some heat problems so H/Davidson came out with the newer/2010 Cooling program.
That Newer ReFlash program [2010] works by speed as well as by the Temperature. This was done by the Warranty Department for Dealers to the 2008 Through 2010 Buells to keep the Engine Cooled better. It is a good thing[PROGRAM} for your Engine especially in the cooling area for ANY XB Bike.
NOW, (JAZZN)- you will probably have to pay a Dealer for the Newer Reflash since so much time has gone by. OF Course you can put a new ECM From Erik Buell Racing .com on the bike with the newer upgrade Fan Cooling Program. OK!- the Subject of ECMSPY for the Buells!!
I Don't know your Skills level for this Powerfull program but it is great for Diagnousing your bikes problems. IT is also good to look up here on the Forum about this ECMSPY but be Carefull, it can crase your ECM if you don't know what you are doing! The Older Bikes Pre./2007, have a program [Older Version].
AND the 2008 and Newer Buells HAVE the [New Version]. NEVER HOOK UP EcmSpys older Version [2002 to 2007] to the Newer Bikes 2008 /2010 OR you will be riding your bicycle instead cause you can BRICK/ OR Mess up the ECM and will need a new ECM.
YOU will(jazzin)need to have the ECM Reflashed with the newer Fan Program. [OR] Get a New ECM from Erik Buell Racing .com- This way you can TELL Erik Buells Techs' ANY Modifications you HAVE already done , SUCH as Exhaust and Air filter. Please read up some Information here from the Forum for helping you make the Best running Bike possible.
However you can add on some extra parts Designed to keep your Engine cooler.[Jazzn] with out the Newer Fan Cooling Program.
There are add ons you can install on the bikes. The right side air scoop and heat shield for the rear header is a good start. You might be able to find those add on parts at the Harley Dealer OR American Sportbike .com - There is a [Complete Kit] for the XB line of bikes.
The Ulysses Comfort kit will fit many models of bikes in only the XB line of bikes.Check with American Sportbike .com [YOUR BEST BET] OR your Dealer for Availability.Jazzn/ with the Bike you have YEAR Wise the Ulysses Comfort Kit will bolt up to your bike easy.
JUST Leave OFF the [3rd piece] that bolts up to the fan the(Shroud) just Use The Right side Scoop and the Rear Header Shield and you won't need the Reflash if you don't want to do it. BUT the Scoop and Header Shield is a Great Add On!Good luck with your choices.Ride Safe.*Jimi
