My Bike 2008 XB12R is having a shifting issue, Its acting like the return spring on the shift shaft is not returning between shifts, example I shift to Second, then if I want to shift to third I have to push down on shifter a little first before I can shift into gear. I have read all the forms and checked the return springs the Bushing on the Primary case looks good, the all new gaskets on primary and shifter and adjust everything to spec in the manual. I am at a loss here what to do next. I have had the primary apart 5 times now triple checking everything. The bike has never been dropped and the shaft is not bent. Could it be my inside primary bushing? Were do I get a bushing? Can I do something to my current Bushing to make it work? It was working perfectly before my stator had to be replaced. Any Ideas?

I have an '03 Parts manual that shows exploded views, PM me email if you'd like it. Primary side hasn't changed. Sounds like a spring was left out, or something is in a bind. Maybe looking at the exploded views, you might catch something that's wrong?

Seems to me I read of a similar problem a while back, turned out the bike had tipped over and bent the shift shaft very slightly, just enough for things to bind.

Does the shaft move freely when the cover is removed? Did you replace the stator yourself or did a shop do it and if so, is it possible that the shop bent your shaft very slightly?

It has never fallen over, the shift shaft moves freely with out the cover on. I did the Stator myself. I have the exploded view and check everything; nothing is missing from the shift shaft. The return springs are in the correct positions. I am suspecting the bushing, but cant find any one who sells it, not sure about the part number

are you sure the spring is right? I ask because it can be installed wrong.

also, there is a case bolt behind the shift lever that if it's worked loose it could cause interference.

it is installed correctly check the springs and the arms are the right way, I was hoping this was my issue, but its all correct.

thanks, I'll take a look to see if that the issue this weekend. If nay one else has any ideas let me know, since this wasnt an issue until after I changed out the Stator...I'm thinking the bolt shouldnt be the issue becuase it shifted fine before chaning the Stator, but I will check.

Another question, I have seen in other post talking about the detent plate, could this be a factor in my problem? I cant find were the detent plate is and would it cause this type of issue?

Any one else have any Ideas..Do you think honing the bushing is worth a try? [confused] should the shift shaft have any play when you push it in towords the bike? Mine has zero play. How about a good place to take if I cant get it going in the San Jose CA area?

FIXED!!!

The issue was the Bolts were too tight, I tightened to exact torque as in the manual an it was just too tight for the shifter. I found this out as I loosened them a little and the shifter started working correctly again. I removed all the bolts and torque them less and used a good loc tight to makes sure they would not come out. So if you also run into this problem try loosening the bolts a little and see if you shifter frees up.
