This week I purchased my first Buell. A 2006 Ulysses XB12X. Due to it being a used bike, I of course changed all the fluids and filters. This bike has been converted to a chain rather than the belt. and has 36K miles. I did a 200 mile ride Saturday and love the bike. It is all stock minus the chain. Any suggestions? not looking to race it, just doing road trips.

welcome to the forum, check all important fasteners for tightness check wheel bearings for noise, ride and enjoy.

If you're just doing road trips - I would of course do all the usual maintenance items (don't forget your plugs).

If you are going to be doing trips, you might want to think about going back to a belt. Just my two cents.

other than oil on the rim and arm no.but if you do let me know i will be more than happy to trade.:D

36K! Dang... at that many miles without knowing the driver I would check just about everything. Glad it done well for u though! Good Luck!

I just find the belt better IMHO, but the chain seems to be a little excessive and loud for unless your racing. just my 2cents tho

My upgrades For road trips: Select seat, tank bag, lowered foot-pegs, fluid and SPARK PLUG change to NGK.

Chain drive rocks!!! I wish I had one. I have a belt and snapped it :( Wish I had a chain. $200.00 from rip-off HD for a 2 onces of rubber! Chain drive conversion is expensive! Close to $700 or more! Stick with the chain brah! A little oil on the rims is better then pushing your bike 5 miles up hill because your $200 rubber band snapped. Plus, the chain looks more "Mechanical". Awesome bike man! Just be sure to check the tensionon on the chain every so often because they do stretch a little and you have to remove a link every now and then. I actually was thinking about purchasing the same exact bike you bought. Good buy! How does it run? Cheers :D

Chain might be more reliable IF maintained properly but it will give you a harder ride and if you want a smooth ride without the chain clanging around noise I would switch back to the belt. The belt is a maintenance free setup.

Also as far as the bike I would replace the wheel bearings, neck bearings, service the forks, change the fluids, and inspect every crevice of the bike. Take the body pieces off and look everywhere, the last thing you want is to be on a long haul and find out you had a mouse nest in the filter, or some small wire severed in half.

Best thing is to do a step by step go though of Everything.

So the belt is more reliable if maintained properly but the belt is a Maintenance free setup! WHaaaaaaa!!! Put the pipe down Extremelow....Come back to reality!!!

Chain is way stronger and cooler! Rubber bands snap. And cost $200. Do the Math!

I am thinking about buying a ULY? I have an XR 1200 that my wife has taken over. I like the weight and looks of the Buell. Anybody-Bueller would you buy yours again or buy another one???
Thanks!
