I am kinda confused here on maintenance. The Blast is my first street bike. I'm used to 2 and 4 stroke dirt bike maintenance. 2 strokes are strict gear oil only and 4 strokes are 10w40. However I'm reading about engine oil, transmission oil, crankcase and primary.

I get the oil thing, already did my first change with 20w50 Mobil1, I also understand the transmission fluid. I will be doing that one tonight. ( fill with Mobil1 gear oil to bottom of gear)

What the heck is the primary and crankcase all about?

I'm not familiar with the blast so let someone else confirm this, but from what I understand the blast engine is the same as the xb engine with one cylinder lopped off, so I'd assume it has all the same oil requirements...

20w50 for the engine oil (crankcase)
20w50 for the transmission oil (primary)

I believe it is a huge no-no to use gear oil...

Absolutely - use fully synth 20W50 for both. Mobil 1 is good, but there are plenty of alternatives.

I used royal purple the first time, and this time amsoil as I can get it cheaper. Mobil is also good. I haven't really noticed any difference between the two oils, although it seems to go into gear and shift slightly easier(less clunkier). If that makes sense. It may just be because the oil is fresh though.

So I have officially just finished my first tranny fluid change.
PAIN IN THE ***

First off, draining the fluid was going great until I couldn't get the
bolt out all the way. It bottomed out on the muffler, oil spilling all over, me panicking,
friends laughing, tools flying. Had to essentially drop the exhaust. Then after that little gem
was done the drive cover had to come off. WOW. There had outta be a trick to this surely.
I used my 3/8ths air ratchet on one but the other two I had to fight with the adapter and universal knuckle. Then ( my fault not bikes) I'm pouring the amsoil in and watching the
Gear to make sure it doesn't overfill but to my surprise the other end of the funnel was overflowing all over my leg. however, first times probably a b!tch for everyone, and it was worth every minute of cursing an frustration. Glad it's done and eagerly awaiting round 2.

Any tips on the foot peg trio of bolts inside the frame?
Any tips at all for that matter???

Yes - get rid of the Y arms and go with rearsets and get rid of the stock muffler. Takes me about 30 seconds to get the cover off and bolt out.

I was just about to say you must have done something wring but remembered u have a blast so it may be different. I changed my trans fluid last weekend and it took about 5 or 10 min. Drain plug camebout fine and I used a ratchett with tors sockets on the cover. Id invest in a set of Allen and torx sockets. It'll be a great set of tools to have for the bike.

Also. You have to folk the trans fluid with the bike upright not o. The side stand otherwise you wi t have enough fluid in there.

Sorry about poor grammar etc. My laptop broke I. Using the wife's kindle. What a pita...

Just think how easy it is to get into my tranny: (God I hated those Y arms)
