Is there any chance of throwing the belt? I just picked up my 2007 XB12Scg last week. It was stock except for the reflectors being removed. I removed the passenger pegs and mounts and then popped off the upper and lower belt guards along with performing the low beam on with high beam headlight mod.

When I was looking at the belt I noticed there was only a lip on the inside of the rear pulley instead of the inside and outside like my Harley. The belt was shifted ever so slightly off the pulley and I could just push it back against the inside lip with my fingers.

Without a pulley with an inside and outside retaining lip, is it possible for the belt to "walk" off the pulley? I'd sure hate to be stranded or worse yet, crash with the drive belt coming off and locking up the back wheel. Wouldn't the belt guard (especially the lower with the metal inside piece and plastic outside piece) assist with keeping the belt on?

The front pulley has a lip on the outside so you won't throw a belt...

you can also back into a curb at an angle, and it will take a chunk of out if...but still worth it.

You can pick up a rock into the drive of the belt with or without the guards. Kind of like saying I wont ever run over a cat but I once did. Where was my cat guard then?

That being said I am guardless. I have 37,000 miles on original belt. Safe Journeys

I keep the bottom guard on to avoid chance of something being rolled up into the lowerside belt and pulley/sprocket.

Not funny if you like cats.
You are right. I meant no disrespect. I am a big advocate against any and all animal abuse. I cant express how bad I felt for months after killing that cat. It broke my heart. I was only trying to make light of the need for belt guards.

Good thing I don't like cats
LOL I am not a cat person either but I do not wish them dead.

I live on a gravel road and ride up and down it everyday sometimes really getting on it throwing up rocks. I don't run guards on either Buell and haven't had any problems. It just looks so much better not having them. My XB had 25000 miles before the belt went and it wasnt from any debris, belt was looking bad from just wear.
