In the process of changing fork seals and oil and powder coating. My question is in the picture below is the part circled in red one piece or does it disassemble into two pieces and if so how?

I have never known the lower fork tube & the bottom casting to come apart; at least not in the course of any routine fork disassembly I have ever done on any bike...

ok thanks for the info.. Any idea how people usually powder coat that bottom AL casting piece without damaging the shiny tube? I was thinking just slide the fork tube over.

I just masked mine with special high temp powdercoating tape, coated, and baked.

I also taped off the inside of my triples before i powdercoated them. No problems with fitment after assembling.
I did drive some wedges in the triples so i wouldnt scratch them.

When I had mine done they said the chrome tubes are removable from the lower aluminum parts. It's a PITA, and there is a sealant of some sort that seals the two together. You can figure out a way to take them apart(not worth it), or powder coat them as one piece like said above(mask off the chrome tubes). There is a possibility the forks will leak afterwards(the high heat disturbing the sealant) but the guy said it's very rare that happens.

The tubes just thread into the fork bottoms, you need a tube clamp for a regular vise, and some heat for the copious threadlock in there....by disassembling, you can also send off the tubes to have them recoated with ti-nitride coated, black or gold....phone ractech or similar reputable suspension company and ask about options.
