ok so for those of you that have been following my post ive been interested in trading my 04 r1 (my babe and a beautiful machine) for a bolt 12r....... I FOUND ONE!!!!! lol. its blue and amber color and has a 17000 miles on it. i have some questions for you guys......
1. its comes with ecm spy. is this good tuning software or should i sell it for something different?????
2. what should i look for on the bike that could be problem areas or things that should definately be looked at????
3.also roughly how much is it to buy new color fairings?
4. and how reliable are these bikes/gas mileage?
5. where can i buy a chain conversion and what is an expected power output of a bigbore kit....

i love it ive already got the mod bug. that was a complaint of my r1...... every thing was so damn much ive seen exhasts that run upwards of 3 greand for them. and parts are rediculous not to mention no one wants to work on internal engine problems with the r1. the buell i can handle myself.... i lil simplicity, i cant wait

1. Keep ECMSpy and learn to use it, it great.
2. Nothing consistently fails on these bikes so a normal check will work.
2. Prolly be cheaper to paint or vinyl wrap but it really depends on where you source your parts.
3. VERY reliable, easy to work on and diagnose. Gas mileage depends on riding style expect 20-45
4. A few places sell the chain conversion, but why?
4.5. No idea on expected output, at around 100hp at the crank after a big bore maybe 115-120 at best?

Congrats and welcome to the Fam.

really well if ive see hp and torque figiures both at 145 but i wasnt sure if that was for a completely built all out motor. Also im pretty nervous about trading my first ever nice bike for one of these. i mean i can still ride it and see if i like the buell or night. if i like it half as much as i do theway it looks though im bringing that baby home.

would you guys say that these bikes are gonna be a collector some day???? i dont see a whole lot of them around??? just curious htats all.

I would look to see if someone will do a straight trade with you for plastics. Blue is always a desirable color. And i have 26k on mine and have done nothing but oil changes and plugs. i get about 125-130 out of a tank of gas.

you can prolly find a set of plastics for around 4-500.
I consisstantly get 50mpg 40 if im riding the piss outta it.
they will doubtfully ever be tomuch of a collectors item. maybe but if you want a collector id recomend a tuber buell.
You hardly ever see a tuber anymore and x1's are beutifull bikes. I beleive production numbers for buell over the years were somewhere around 136000 so they are kinda rare, but there around.

The ones that will be collectors items will be the low mileage unmolested bikes. The tube frame bikes are rare because most chop them up and rob the powertrains for their chopper projects. Which will slowly start to happen to the XB's when their prices start coming down. Thankfully the prices have kinda stabilized for now.

Yeah, i dont think i'd do a chain swap. The bikes don't have enough power to stretch/snap a belt, even as much as the Japanese bikes stretch/snap chains. Belts are rubber which is resilient. It changes shape, but always retains shape in the end. You stretch metal and there's no going back. I think a belt system is actually better than chains.

i think id like to go up one or two teeth in the front for i lil more topend. with the torque these produce i dont think the acceleration will slow much

Belts can snap. While they are a kevlar reinforced belt, if you try to clutch up past 60, you will snap the belt... trust me..

Haha i'm not really into the whole wheelie and riding like a ******* thing :p I'm in the process of becoming a police officer right now and the whole reckless endangerment thing doesn't look too cool on a resume. That and i like to give us bikers a good name by not doing 120 up and down city blocks and revving past people's houses at 3 in the morning. That's not to say that i don't still have fun, but i only do it in totally abandoned areas around where i live, which aren't too hard to find wen you live in a town of 800 people.

Also, i believe this gentleman asking about the XBs for his R1 mentioned 145hp/145tq. The Horsepower wouldnt be hard to get, but 145lb/ft of TQ out of ANY bike is a stretch, unless its like a triumph thunderbird 2300cc or something like that. There are lots of cars (*cough* HONDAS *cough*) that don't even make 145tq

You think it would be easy to wring 145hp out of a Buell XB with just a big bore? They are advertised as 103 at the crank, most people are seing high 80's on a dyno in stock form and mid to upper 90's with a tune/can/air filter. Dont get me wrong, I love the XB, it's capable, and a very purposeful built bike for the street. But Minus a turbo or shot of NOS I dont think you can get close to 140hp at the wheel. Your talking 50% gains, and that doesn't happen cheap, or easy on the bike.

1125r's are a hideous looking bike in my opinion. Ive googled and seen dyno sheets everywhere from120 to 145 with close to the same amount of torque on multiple dyno sheets. I was just wondering what it takes for that. The whole reason o skipped the buell for the r1 in the first place was power and acceleration. But there isn't much in the means of parts available for building engines. I love working on things and the buell is much more friendly to someone with more parts and less exspensive aftermarket. I love the look of the forebolt nut the performance of my r1 engine. So what o need is my r1 engine in a Bolt lol

Hammer performance has a dyno on there site for a m2 and made 145hp and 114 tq. I bet that would run with my r1 no lproblem..... And sound b!@#$.
