I have to agree with LeFox. Bleed the system (you'll have to have some DOT 4 brake fluid on hand to do this anyway, so you'll know instantly if the wrong fluid is in your system). Motrax (available at Cycle Gear) makes an excellent one-way valve (MOTRAX Brake Bleeder #54533) that slips on the brake bleeding nipple on the caliper that turns the bleeding process into a one-man job.
I had the same problem, and this solved it immediately.
