so i was wondering, are these firebolts fuel injected or carbeurated, or both. if so what years are fuel injected. as far as modding a buell who would one take these bikes to for a tune or would you just mail order a tune that is close to your parts list? just curious. im considering selling my r1 and getting a buell so i have something i can wrench on myself.

As far as I know, all xb models are fuel injected. There is a program you can get for free called ecmspy, and buy a cheap cable, then you can flash a race map to the bike. Or modify it yourself if you know how. In my case, I gave the program to a local shop and he said he will dyno tune my bike if I want. I am probably going to do it after I do my intake and exhaust.

I think there are other ways such as a program you can buy called tunerpro or something like that. There's also a guy that runs a class called "tuniversity" or something like that online and he can teach you how to tune it (for a fee).

all XBs are fuel injected. Tubers starting in 99 were FI.

Note: that's about three years before Honda with it's famous F4i

My 2000 M2 is carburated... To my knowledge, the other tubers were FI and the M2 stayed carb'd till the end.

you can swap in a 12, but you'd need a different eeprom.

if the engines are from the same year it would be relatively easy.

07+ changed a bit.

Don't get carried away about the 9 vs the 12. They are almost the same engine. The 12 doesn't make drastically more power either. On the street, I couldn't even tell a difference between the 9 that I own and the 12 that I rode, because the 9 is geared lower. I'm sure on a track the 12 would leave the 9 behind, but if you're only going to be riding on the street don't worry about that.

actually i love to wrench. so i was thinking more along the lines of swapping a 12 for the purpose of a big bore, head work, etc. i currently have an 04 r1. ive blown it up twice and parts are super exspensive and rebulds are pretty much non existant. it appears to be much easier to rebuild, source parts, and just work on a buell. i guess they seem much simpler to me anyways. maybe im incorrect.
