Hey guys, new to the forum, and I have a small problem, I recently bought a xb12r with 13k km's on the clock, I ran it for about 50 k's and then did a oil change, oil was black andI found small metal shavings on the magnet, but nothing to bad, the drove it for about 200 k's then ran ps23 engine flush through it drained the oil and I found more metal shavings on magnet, now I dont now if its old shavings that were stuck in the oil and only loosened up after putting ps23. This weekend after about 50 k's I pulled everything and again couple of shavings, swapped oil and new filter and I could start hearing a faint knocking sound that wasnt there before I serviced it.

Now my question, is there a chance that someting is running more loosely after the service and that its normal or is there more to it because of the shavings, theres ni knock at idle, and 2000 to 3000 rpm you can hear it and then it gets softer again, any idea what this could be?

Any help will be much appreciated, and sorry if this has been answered before.

I don't know if I would of did a engine flush , I change my oil every 3k to 5k and only amsoil 20+50 but that's me. Maybe someone else will chime in.

I freaked out when I saw the metal shards on engine oil plug thats why I did the flush, im kind of stressed out the at moment, coz shes my pride and joy but she isnt healthy.... Can anybody tell me how to check if uts bearings without pulling the motor?

The plug has a magnet on it so it will get little pieces on it .How much was on it ? If you take a pic can tell you weather it's normal or not . What oil you using?

Put dino 20-50 back in it and let us know if it is quieter.. there have been many reports that the XB motors are noisier with synthetic..

This is true, switch to mobil 1 full syn and its much louder, but no issues 13k miles later. I have metal shaving every oil change, if its fuzz and flakes youre good, chunks is bad. I say kick the tires spit on it and ride te **** outta it!
If something gives, oh well grab some tools cause as a Bueller owner, youll need to get deep inside her, get down and dirty, touch her in places that maker her feel good. You dont want another dude, getting intimate with your girl, or buell. Just saying get use to working on her.

I agree with the above post. I run mobile 1 fully synth. in my 03 9R, and have been for the past 3 or 4 years that iv'e owned it. I can definately hear "sounds" coming from it all the time, but that is why i have a loud exhaust! :) JK.....sort of....

When i do a oil change I get the same "fuzz/flakes that theycallmecrash is talking about, i clean off the magnet, and put it back together then go tear it up on the bike. at 40k the bike is doing just fine!!!

Thanks for rhe advice, the shavings is enough to make the plug look like a porcupine, but its not shards yet, only shavings, will do a filter and oil swap on thursday, just let sit a while. Thanks for all the help so far guys!

I have a new prob, did tranny oil, and now it shifts hard when idling and doesnt want to hit neutral, I put same as engine oil, shell helix. How can I fix this?

Hey guys, me again. What will happend if I switch pushrods? I know theres one marked red amd one white per cylinder, if I switch red and white, will it cause trouble?

Yes the pushrods should always go back in the original order. The intake and exhaust pushrod length is different.

I would stay simple and go to a different oil before doing something mega. Use HD oil and see how that goes.

In my observations most guys run Mobil 1, Amsoil, Royal Purple, or the HD oil.
