any one ever put lube on one or taken one apart? it's getting to the point where i almost can't open it.

Be careful not to break your key off in it. I have seen on here where people will take the cap off, spray wd40 or something like it into the key hole, put the key in it and just work it back and forth until it loosens up. I have never done it personally. They do sell keyless gas caps for our bikes but they are around $100, little pricey for me right now.

Use a lubricant spray that leaves a dry film. There are sprays with very fine Teflon and graphite. After spraying, the liquid vehicle that carries the lubricant evaporates leaving a dry film.

Oily lubricants leave a residue that becomes a dirt magnet. Dirt in the lock may cause it to bind or jam.

good advice above. personally i use kroil. has penetrant as well as silicone lube and works nicely. insert the red spray tube in thru key door and spray as well as underside to include gasket and both locking teeth. wipe off access, work lock assembly several times and install. you'll find it is much smoother.
