Planning a trip in April on the Buell. Needed some way to carry some gear. Basically took the frame of a passenger seat and bolted an ebay scooter trunk to it. It actually worked out pretty nice because it works as a back support too. To remove it all I have to do is take it off, just like the rear seat. Looks a little Ghetto, but total of $60 and I have a pretty nice size luggage case.

Looks like a clean install. My friend did something similar for our camping trip.

Consider saddlebags. You're going to feel the weight back there, plus it doesn't allow you to use a backpack. I couldn't believe the handling difference when I switched to saddlebags. I don't even notice them back there.

+1[up] I sold a guy in town an extra pass. seat I had so he could do the same for work.

Add saddle bags but don't consider a back pack. A back pack over a long trip will hinder your riding ability and be uncomfortable. On an R you will be bent forward so this hard case will be good, add some side bags and you'll be fine.

yea 1- on the backpack! i rode from the middle of Illinois to homecoming last year with a backpack......was not fun!

Yeah, I have a backpack I ride with for around town and short 1 night trips, but after about 2 hours, I'm over it. I considered adding saddle bags to this, but I'd like to keep the ability to pop off the whole thing in 1 sec. If I pack pretty light I think I can manage with just this trunk. The only thing that wont fit in it is my track pants. And since I'm going to TN, I want them when I get there, but don't feel like riding 10 hours (each way) in race pants. I may have to settle for jeans and armor.

I'm not sure people are going to take you seriously with that on the back. Old folk are going to be asking you for the medicine they ordered from the pharmacy - LOL Only joking. Sure its better than a back pack like I carry. But then again I travel light eg gum and credit card. Enjoy the ride

I have enough experience with and without to disagree. When I do long trips, I usually carry my backpack with just my laptop in it. I actually prefer having the backpack in colder temperatures. I've been on trips in the cold without the backpack and I missed it. I think backpacks are fine as long as they are kept light and have a chest strap. You want the majority of the weight down low.

Trust me the first thing packed is gonna be the real seat/cover to switch when I arrive. I can just see the pics of me with this ghetto setup on the dragon.

Treyflee----- if it works , that's all that matters. A Buell friend of mine put some military ammo boxes on his lightning as saddle bags and have alot of carrying capacity. It don't hurt to think " outside of the box " , so to speak !
