I am looking to purchase a gps on the bike. I read a thread either here or adv rider some time ago and I have not been able to locate it. I want to be able to charge while riding. 2 questions mainly.
1) Using something like this instead of a cigarette lighter seems nicer but my concern is the output of charge. Anyone who has ever plugged a smartphone into the computer via a usb port knows its charges at half the speed. User that assumption instead of 12v it would charge at a rate of 6v equivalent I would think. Does anyone have any insight into this?
2) For a power source ignition on would be the only sensible thing. I believe I read somewhere the hand grip warmer connections can be made to work for a source. I remember reading where someone had a plug they found to be assembled and plug into the existing harness in the fairing area.

Heres the usb charger that I have found so far

I ran an inline fuse to cig plug into trunk. Gps in tank bag cord runs under seat up back of tank into bag.

I made a charger that ties into the trickle charger lead I already had installed on the bike. Looks like the one Oh9 linked to tho it is a dual USB charger because that is what I use to charge my phone(s).

Its doesn't matter what you plug into 110v or 12v a USB plugs steps down to 5v. Some chargers are faster then others but my galaxy s3 charges at the same rate from 110v house to 12v car to laptop......

The third one that you linked is the one I have. Installed a SAE connector on the other end and plug it right up to the battery via the SAE trickle charge plug. I run mine up from under the seat into my tank bag. Works just fine on my phone & MP3 player. If you plan on charging while it is mounted to the bars you probably want to use the power wire for the heated grips under the fly screen.

I tapped into some power behind the windscreen. Installed an Amplirider, a 12 v cig socket splitter and voila. Made a couple simple mounts out of sheet metal for the devices and I'm golden. Gps, Phone & XM radio all feeds to my helmet via the amplirider.

Velcro & zip ties are my friends.

I have the bike set up on a battery tender and I could certainly use that adapter like a few of you guys mentioned but honestly I was thinking about leaving that open incase I do get a tail bag so I can charge my cell in the rear of the bike and still have power up front.

The heated grips have a ignition on source its just finding a plug to make it work correctly. It is almost a gm type of automotive connector that is assembled to make it a neat waterproof permanent connection.
I'm going to order this unless someone knows of a better deal http://www.ebay.com/itm/CERTIFIED-W...03744944-Direct-Connect-12V-NEW-/320960806827
Holy crap Alien, you need a GoPro and you will have the accessories covered!

usb hardwired straight to the battery. looks good and works great for phones and a gps!!

nice set ups. dont have any like that on my bolt. now i have ideas. did put a 12v outlet on my v-rod by my leg. just have to remember to unplug my phone when i get off of it.

Well honestly I just want to purchase that type of automotive plug to connect to my usb plug. I found what you posted plus on badweb a guy said the connector is 73100-96 and the seal is 72090-06 which helps with nothing because i cant find it.
Somewhere someone posted that plug and its driving me nuts lol.

I have a busted phone charger for my iPhone, it is for the car. I think the cig lighter portionis busted. I was going to cut that part and try to hard wire it.
