This is what a Harley Salesman in Milwaukee, WI sent me in regards to how they price the bikes. I thinks it's a bunch of Bull-shiz!! They're not willing to lower/Negotiate a price. Tell me what you think?

Hello Adam,

The price of the Lightning is $10,995. The 2007 may be a little bit less. We have sold four of our Buells within the last week. I want to be able to welcome you to the world of Buell! Don't forget, between now and April 15th, we are paying your sales tax. That will save you a little over 5% of the price. Also, please remember that the price of $10,995 includes all freight and set-up charges. I am showing you those upfront. Thanks again for the chance to earn your business. Austin

Adam,

Remember that we at the House of Harley, and myself in particular, prefer to show you the price including freight and set-up. These are real costs, that we get charged, and are obviously necessary. We need to ship the bike here, and we need to pay a Technician to set-up the bike properly. We wouldn't do it any other way. I could tell you a nice low price, and then, when you're signing paperwork, spring the extra charges on you. It is a ridiculous practice, but other places do that because they know most people won't leave the office in the middle of signing. Like I said the other day (I was off on Thursday), I am going to get some real numbers for you, on both bikes, and do what we can to earn your business. Thanks again, Austin

Doesn't sound unfair to me. In a market economy the market sets the price of goods and services. A business that can't get the price it wants will eventually either lower their price or go out of business. We live in a free market, thank G-d and not some socialist hell, (sorry LeFox;)just a friendly capitalist jab to Belgium, not you personally) so any dealership that can't satisfy a customer will lose that customer because they will go elsewhere. We vote with our wallet in commerce so just find a dealer that wants your business more. I mean hey, we all gotta make a living and a Buell is THE BEST two wheel product, so pony up the dough and let's ride bro.

Yep, that seems right on. Were you looking to finance or pay cash outright?

Financing---See what rates the dealer has through Harley credit, you can usually get a better rate on new items at a higher ticket price than on used. ( weird I know, but thats what I did on my last bike. It was cheaper overall for me to buy new )[up]

Cash---more willing to negotiate if your standing there with 9-10k cash ( for 07 obviously [cool] )

why would i take it personally...[confused]
to clear things up, i provide a friend with a service...that is offering the airscoop...i don't have a 'take' or '%' on it. i just get the hits on the site.

back on topic...
well boney95, atleast he's straight up and honest with you.
i'd rather have that instead of a few $$$ less on sale price...cause in the long run, you'll be paying for it anyway.

On the bright side if he is being honest with you now, you know you can trust him in the future, maybe honesty is not limited to one person at this dealership, if so then the service department may not rip you. Of course, Buell service departments aren't really known for ripping people off.

Boney95,

I have personally talked with Austin around March, when I was looking for a bike. These dealers don't wanna deal. I ended up getting my bike at Hal's and traded in my 2002 M2 Cyclone. I got an 2007 demo bike owned by an execuctive at Buell with 500 miles on it. Freight and prep is all a joke. They charged $640 some bucks to take it out of the box and ship it from East Troy! Austin seems to be real into Buells but best bet is to shop around. If you are real serious about buying a bike, be straight with these guys. I went in to the dealer and said I'm buying a bike and I want this much for my trade in and it was a done deal.

My family has owned 4 HD's that we bought from the dealer's, and i have never know them to budge on the price. Like Gilex said, shop around. Some dealers will sell bikes at MSRP where others slap on a ridiculous markup. Even in some rare cases, dealers will drop prices at year end to off load product. I payed 10,000 otd for my 05 Sportster 1200C new because of the off loading.

I've been shopping around and I had a guy tell me the 08 xb12scg that was on the floor was listed as $10,495 but came right out and told me walking out the door it would be $11,900 including taxes and shipping blah, blah, blah... I want the all black and asked about special ordering. HA! the earliest he told me would be September, looks like I'm gonna be buying plastics. And gas hit $3.85 today NW Indiana so I'm gettn mine Friday.
