Randy is way too nice. Never wanted me to pay him until I started it up and loved the modded muffler. Stupid weather, who knows how long it could take before I can do that. Very confident I will love it given everyones feedback. $$ sent, I am already a satisfied customer just based on the looks.

Hi Guys
I have a 2007 xb9 with 8,500 Km's on the clock, that I picked up for a good price in Sept 09.
The bike came with the Race ECM, still in the box, The K&N Filter is readily available and I would really like to up the spec of the bike.
I need some advice on what muffler to buy for the xb9. I live in Johannesburg, South Africa and Buell's are fairly scarce in this country.Because of this, aftermarket parts can only really be found on the net. I think the local HD guys sell a Micron Muffler and Header kit for the xb9 but at a horrendous price of (+-$1000) Is it difficult to design and make my own Slip-on Muffler or is it better to import one, and which one. I read about you guys discussing about the good and bad aspects of so many makes (Drummer, Jardin, Voodoo etc.etc)
Any advice would be great.

Devil, it will cost less to get a stock pipe from Buellster over here, have it shipped to Randy for mod and then shipped UPS unternational to you in South Africa. And you'll still have plenty of beer money left to celebrate the new noise.
I bet a Buell Uly would be fun to have down there on the more rural roads. More shock travel and a reinforced exhaust/skid plate.

The wheels have been set in motion!

On the backorder list for a core from Buellster, then it's off to Randy for some sweet, sweet lovin'.!.

Can't wait!

Honestly from the testing I've seen the Micron on the XB9's is totally worth the price, it blows the other pipes out of the water on the dyno chart. I'm the proud owner of a Hawk Pipe, on a XB12s and for the price it can't be beat. However, for the best performance on 9's I remember Micron taking the cake. Search for the huge muffler comparison test, if it isn't one of the threads in here:

EDIT: The link for the test is a couple posts up, american sportbike something or other. lol.

I just took my bike out of the basement through 5 inches of snow in my back yard because it is gonna be 45 and sunny here in NY tomorrow. When I started it up with the new Hawk pipe my wife asked me "What the F*&k is that?" She had no clue about the new pipe. Now she does. I am freakin amped. Everyone ride safe this year.

See this is why I could never hide a new pipe from my wife she knows what my bikes sound like. Good thing is she likes my bikes being loud, She always makes me blip the throttle in a parking garage to set off car alarms.

I just emailed Randy about my pipe for when I get home from my deployment and he told me when I get back to send him my pipe and ecm and he will get me fixed up. I am very excited.

I made the mistake of installing mine when the wife was sick in bed. Only took her about 30 seconds to come out to see what in the hell I had bought now when the house started to shake.:D:D

Congrats.. Riding on friday, I was using my Hawk pipe to scare the hell out of other people.. Everybody i was riding with Friday couldnt hear there own bikes, only mine.. It was 1st long ride with the Hawk, very happy.. Just really need a good tune..

According to my dyno run, the ECM tuned itself quite well. Not lean at all above 2500. And that was with the K&N and the Hawk.
I know what you mean about volume. At "neighborhood" speed it is tolerable for my neighbors. When I get on it, it really howels. Had heads turning at the Harley bar next to the dealer in Greensboro.
I can only dream about how it will behave after I lose 100 pounds. I was told one gains the equivalenmt of 1HP for every 5 pounds of weight loss. So it could feel like I gain 20HP. I know my power to weight will improve ~20%.

Randy told me that if u ride over 3k rpm for around 15-20miles the ecm will retune itself.. I"m still having some bogging at lower speeds, when throttle is applied. So idk, I'll wait to Randy gets his map up and running so I can just spend off my ECM.. i've not installed my K&N yet though so that mb the cause.

So correct me if i'm wrong but on an 09SS with a Hawk and K&N the bike will retune without needing and ECM or Remap? Just tryin to figure it out
