I'm thinking about having my headers coated black but I was curious how tough they are to get off? It looks like one of the bolts on the rear is hidden behind the bend of the pipe.

According to Harley you have to remove everything off the front of the motor and roll the motor forward to get to the rear bolt. I tried accessing it from the top. I will be doing my headers this winter. and also add some heat barrier to the inside of the frame.

Thats kinda what I was afraid of.....looks like i might have to wait a little while till the weather gets a little worse

Yeah Harley said it's about a 4 hour job.

you need to drop the engine...is done within 3 hours.

keep the lower pivot, place a jack under the engine and just lower/pivot the engine.

It's easier to wrap them with some black header wrap until you have the time or money for the header removal.
